The town has been painted red as it’s Christmas time and the Santas are seen giving away festive goodies at every major spot in the city. Christmas traditions have been initiated with the gifts and goodies flying off the shelves and bakes pleasing the festive crowd. The city malls wear a decorative look.

A popular city mall has decided to give its customers a Santa surprise. To make the Christmas Eve entertaining, they have a festive evening planned for its visitors. A huge Christmas tree at the heart of the mall greets the visitors and its 10-day long Winter Carnival comprising Christmas Delight Show with over 500 gifts to be won on Christmas, is already a hit. Besides, there is a Winter Fashion Show to be held on December 25, which will give a chance to fashionable youngsters to show off in style. A special evening planned with dance performance by D-Boys; Live Band Contests and fun games and activities throughout await.

The other shopping spaces in the city have also turned red, with the Christmas tree turning blue and white this season. Imbued in silvery, glittering, colourful lights and ornaments, the Christmas tree is finding a place in most homes this X-mas. A well-known gallery has a list of Christmas goodies like silver balls, bells, miniature Santa Claus, decorative stockings, musical cards and stick candies cut out like X-mas tree.

Apart from the goodies, cakes and candies too make for Christmas celebrations. Special offers around city bakeries are Gingerbread house, plum puddings, Christmas chocolate tree and homemade chocolates for the occasion. “People buy cakes specially as a gift or otherwise on Christmas, specially for children who are fond of baked Christmas delights. We have special Santa Claus icings and toppings for Christmas but they are on order,” says Rakesh, working at a bakery on Lawrence Road.

Several designer bakers too have their hands full with special orders. City hotels and clubs too are waiting to play Santa for young and grown-ups with Christmas parties being organised. Special offers and costume parties will be the order of the day.

While some will celebrate on the day itself, others have already begun the festivities. Children and members of the One Up library and learning centre put up a great musical show at Punjab Natshala. The Christmas festive Mosiac, 2014, presented by the children of One Up compiled musical performances and a small show celebrating the festive season.

Becoming a community of sorts, with the purpose of empowering every child with the power of knowledge and creative development, One Up presented the talent of children with various musical instruments. Running a programme in accordance with the musical curriculum of Trinity College, London, the library imparts music education.
