The Congress in charge of Jammu and Kashmir affairs, Ambika Soni, has said Modi magic was fading fast in Jammu and Kashmir and people were not falling prey to his words anymore.

“I found that voters are not willing to go with the BJP anymore like they probably did in the Jammu region in the Lok Sabha elections,” Soni said.

Talking to The Tribune here today, Ambika Soni said voters were assessing the situation and knew the next six years were going to be important for them. “I think they (people) are evaluating the performance of every party and then deciding how they should vote,” she said.

The Congress in charge of the J&K affairs said it was due to frustration that the BJP was criticising the Congress every now and then.

“If they don’t criticise the Congress then whom will they. The BJP is aware that the Congress is a threat to their Mission 44-plus. It thinks it will sweep Jammu but I don’t find any such thing,” she said.

Keeping mum on the National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), she said the competition in Jammu was between the Congress and the BJP. “The NC and the PDP might be able to get some votes but there is a fight between the Congress and the BJP. We have been able to expose Modi on his promises made during the Lok Sabha elections such as Article 370 and settlement of the refugees. They say one thing in Jammu and completely opposite in the Valley,” the Congress leader said.

Soni has been addressing rallies in the the state since the start of the Assembly elections. She along with party campaign chief Ghulam Nabi Azad and JKPCC chief Saifuddin Soz has reached out to people in most of the constituencies of the state.
