SAD dissolves Youth Wing
NEW DELHI, Nov 27 (PTI) — The Shiromani Akali Dal today dissolved its Youth Wing, including the district units, in order to reconstitute it, party Secretary-General Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said here. He said the decision to dissolve the Youth Wing was taken following a directive from Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who is also the party President. The new Executive Committee of the wing would be constituted at a party meeting in Chandigarh on December 12.

Submarine deal
ISLAMABAD, Nov 27 (AFP) — Pakistan Navy chief Admiral Fasih Bukhari has suspended the jail terms of two officers sentenced by a military court for receiving kickbacks in a submarine deal with France, officials said today. The suspension followed a petition from Commodore Shahid Ashraf and Capt Liaquat Ali Malik. Earlier this month Ashraf was given seven years in jail and Malik three years. Both had pleaded guilty.

AMU doctors’ stir
NEW DELHI, Nov 27 (PTI) — Junior doctors and students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) are on a relay fast to protest the sine die closure of the university and to press their demand for removal of Vice-Chancellor Mahmadoor Rahman. "We are demanding among other things removal of the vice-chancellor and institution of a CBI inquiry into the incidents that led to attacks on students on the campus recently," members of the Joint Action Committee said here.

7 Tigers killed
COLOMBO, Nov 27 (AFP) — Government troops fired artillery and mortar bombs at Tamil rebel positions in northern Sri Lanka as seven guerrillas were killed in another clash, the Defence Ministry said today. Security forces carried out the attacks yesterday in Mankulam where the seven members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were shot dead by soldiers.

Anantnag hospital
NEW DELHI, Nov 27 (PTI) — The British Deputy High Commissioner in India, Dr David Carter, today donated medical and office equipment worth Rs 12.3 lakh to John Bishop Memorial Hospital at Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir. The equipment includes an operating table, a shadowless lamp, a semi-auto analyser, refrigerators, a computer, fax machines and a generator, a British High Commission press note here said.

CBI probe sought
LUCKNOW, Nov 27 (PTI) — Senior Congress leader Mohsina Kidwai has sought a CBI inquiry into the alleged raids by some unidentified armed persons at the ancestral Rae Bareli residence of noted Islamic scholar Ali Mian. Ms Kidwai told reporters here that such incidents needed to be condemned in the strongest possible terms. She accused the BJP of trying to create a rift in society by making recitation of Saraswati Vandana and Vande Mataram compulsory in schools.
