THREAT: Two hundred trained veterinary pharmacists have threatened to go on strike if the government fails to take any steps to recruit them against hundreds of vacant posts in government hospitals and dispensaries in state. In a press note, Mr Parminder Singh, heading the unemployed pharmacists, stated that despite 1500 government posts lying vacant, the government had failed to make any headway in recruiting them. ARRESTED: Mr Lok Nath Angra, SSP, Hoshiarpur, disclosed in a press release here on Wednesday that 14 proclaimed offenders had been arrested during January in the district. During investigation it was found that two more proclaimed offenders died. CHEATING: A case of cheating by travel agents of Ludhiana has been reported at Sadar police station. Ravi Dutt of the local Pur Hiran area lodged a complaint against Surinder Pal Verma and his son, Kulwinder Kumar, travel agents of
Janakpuri, Ludhiana, in which he alleged that the father and his son took Rs 4.40 lakh from him for sending him abroad. They neither sent him nor returned his money. Jalandhar
ARRESTED: The district police, in a special campaign to nab fugitives, has arrested 43 proclaimed offenders of which 11 had been evading arrest for more than 15 years after the registration of cases against them. This was stated by a police spokesman.

DANCE CONTEST: As many as 50 kids of the Love Dale Club participated in a dance competition organised at Love Dale Montessori here on Thursday. Kids gave solo dance performances on some of the hit numbers like ‘Bardasht nahin kar sakta’, ‘Mahi ve’, ‘Baithke trinjnan vich’ and others. Ms Gopi Arora, an artist, was invited to pronounce the judgement. Ms Pritima Behl, in charge of the club, said the contest was a pre-annual day event held to screen best 10 dancers for the main annual day show to be held soon. She said prizes were, however, given to all the participating students for their encouragement.CAMP: A Nasha Niwarak Camp will be organised by the management of Guru Nanak Ayurvedic Medical College at Dr Walia Charitable Hospital, Gopalpur, on February 14 for the benefit of addicted persons, having disturbed family lives. Dr D.V. Prashar, Medical Suprintendent in a press statement on Thursday said all types of addiction like alcohol, opium, bhang, and other drugs etc would be treated in the camp. The guests of honour on this occasion would be Dr S.N. Tiwari, CMO, Ludhiana, Mr Mukhwinder Singh Cheema, SSP, Jagraon and Mr Jagpal Khangura, a Senior Congress leader. BLOOD DONATION CAMP: A voluntary blood donation camp was organised at Sant Baba Bishakha Singh Sports Club, Kishanpura Kalan, here on Thursday. A team of doctors and technicians from Dayanand Medical College and Hospital organised the camp under the leadership of Dr Amarjit Kaur, associate professor and head of the department of Transfusion Medicine . As for as 125 units of blood was collected from the camp, said Dr Hitish Narang. "The collected blood will be used for the welfare of the registered thalassaemic children in the thalassaemic unit under Dr Parveen Sobti," said Dr Amarjit Kaur.

MOLESTATION: The local police has booked two youths for allegedly molesting a girl. A case under Section 354, 34 of the IPC has been registered against the suspects, said police sources here on Tuesday. The suspects have been identified as Sippu and Monni, residents of the local Mohalla Guru Ka Khuh. The girl was molested when she had gone to a temple to pay her obeisance. The suspects have been arrested.
