45 govt officers accorded magistrate’s powers for poll

The Returning Officer-cum-District Electoral Officer-cum-District Magistrate of Sonepat, Mr M. R. Anand has accorded the powers of a magistrate on duty to as many as 45 officers of various government departments for checking any untoward incident on May 10, the date of polling for the Lok Sabha elections in the Sonepat parliamentary constituency.
Notice to ASI on plea seeking protected status
New Delhi, May 5
The Delhi High Court today issued a notice to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the local authorities on a petition seeking to declare the Jama Masjid as a protected monument and removal of all unauthorised constructions and encroachments surrounding the 17th century monument.
