Assuring depositors that
their money was safe in banks, Reserve Bank of India Governor
D. Subbarao today said the central bank was geared to inject
more liquidity into the country's financial system and that
there was no cause for anxiety.

Isolated incidents of hoisting of
Pakistani flag in two villages, Sonaipara and Mohanpur in Udalguri
district, by some miscreants during the recent communal violence, has
snowballed into a major political issue in Assam with opposition groups
out to pin down the ruling Congress over the controversy.

violence: Toll rises to 10 Burhanpur (MP), October 11
A day after communal violence
rocked the town, the situation remained tense but under control today
even as the toll mounted to 10 with five bodies recovered from a
religious place here. Five bodies, including of a woman, were recovered
from a religious place in Virodha village, where they had taken shelter
following the violence yesterday, the police said.

change is for vulnerable women: Govt ‘It’s not about live-in
relationship’ Mumbai, October 11
The proposed amendment to the
criminal procedure code (CrPC) is not about giving any
"status" to live-in relationship, but is aimed at providing
succour to vulnerable women, specially those short-changed in bigamous
marriages, a Maharashtra government official said.

Movie star Amitabh Bachchan was
rushed to hospital after he complained of abdominal pain while meeting
friends and fans on his 66th birthday today. Suspected to be suffering
from hernia, the actor was first rushed to Nanavati Hospital near his
house in Juhu and then to Lilavati Hospital in Bandra.
