Sangat darshan
: Local Bodies Minister Manoranjan Kalia will hold a sangat darshan programme for the residents of Ward 35 at Makhdoompura on Sunday. Giving details, SDM-I Iqbal Singh Sandhu said the issues taken up by the residents would be resolved on the spot. He said ration cards, pension, SC/BC certificates, learning certificates would be disbursed. Various issues pertaining to the police, MC, Punjab State Power Corporation and other departments would also be sorted out at the spot. 

Lawn tennis court: Commissioner of the Jalandhar Division-cum-president of Jullundur Gymkhana Club today opened a lawn tennis synthetic court. He said this would be the fourth court that had come up at the club at a cost of Rs 27 lakh. Others present on the occasion were Satish Thakur Gora, honorary secretary, and Ashwini Chaudhary, manager. of the club.

Jewellery exhibition
:A three-day jewellery exhibition by Surana started here today at Gold Souk Grande. This is the first time that Surana from Jaipur is holding an exhibition in the city. The collection includes exquisite range of jewellery embedded with diamond polkis, emerald, rubies and precious gemstones. A wide range of kundan minakari jewellery, Victorian and diamond jewellery, including bridal sets, necklaces, pendants, rings, earrings etc. are on display. 

BJP training camp begins
: A three-day training camp of the BJP began here on Friday. BJP training cell co-convener Ram Pyara Pandey, Punjab BJP organising secretary Ajay Jamwal, Technical Education Minister Swarana Ram and former Punjab BJP president Madan Mohan Mittal exhorted the party activists to work in a democratic way. Mittal gave details of the constitution of the BJP and its working in national interests. 



Direct election of civic body chiefs
:Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Shimla MCand president and vice-president of Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats will be elected directly by the electorate. A notification to this effect was issued here today. It also said the provisions of the Himachal Pradesh Panchayats and Municipalities Elections (disclosure of specified information by the candidates) Regulations, 2004, will also be applicable to the candidates. 



Rohit wins debate: Rohit Rotela from the B Ed faculty won the debate competition held on the last day of cultural programmes organised by Shri Guru Ram Rai PG College here yesterday. B Sc second-year student Swati stood second and Preeti Pandey third, respectively. The topic for the debate was “Grading system introduced in class X will enhance the quality of education”. Seven persons participated in the debate.
