Nishank slams Centre for blocking funds
BD Kasniyal
Pithoragarh, March 12
Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said despite the non-cooperation of the Centre, the BJP Government in the state had overcome natural disasters and successfully launched its social welfare programmes for the poor.
“Despite the Centre blocking the money we demanded to tackle the natural calamity in the state, the state government is giving people cheap ration, medical care and education, including medical education under which we have made arrangements to produce doctors in the state by spending only Rs 15,000 per annum as fee,” said the CM, while addressing a rally at Askot town of the district today. “The Atal Khadyann Yojana, 108 Emergency medical service, Gaura Devi Kanyadhan Yojana and mobile hospitals are our pillars on which the BJP Government in the state has shown its commitment to the people for which all the five MPs of the Congress have done nothing,” said the CM, while talking to mediapersons later. The CM distributed Rs 493.96 lakh to the beneficiaries of various state-run welfare schemes, including 73 girls under Gaura Devi Kanyadhan Yojana. “The CM also laid foundation stones for eight motor roads worth Rs 11.51 crore and inaugurated a newly built building of ayurvedic hospital for the backward area of Salla in the Askot area,” said district information officer Dhirendra Pandey. The CM awarded every respondent with Rs 500, who answered his query correctly on the various welfare schemes being run by the state government. “We are committed to giving employment to every trained youth in the state, but the restrictions posed by the Centre are posing hurdles in the process for which I will personally talk to the Central Government,” said the CM, while replying to a delegation of trained unemployed teachers demanding the deletion of the newly imposed teachers eligibility test provisions. Meanwhile, the Pithoragarh police made some preventive arrests of activists going to demonstrate before the CM during his public address. “Around 50 activists of the CPI (ML) and NSUI and anganwari workers were arrested at Didihat, Ogla and Askot to maintain peace in the CM’s meeting. The workers were later released,” said Pithoragarh SP Nilesh Bharna. However, the tehsil activists from Devalthal and some anganwari workers managed to reach before the CM and demonstrated, admitted the police.

Ramdev propagating RSS-BJP hidden agenda, says Tehri MP
Lashes at Chief Minister’s propaganda blitz
Sandeep Rawat
Tribune News Service
Haridwar, March 12
With a verbal war continuing between Baba Ramdev, supported by the BJP, and Congress leaders, parliamentarian from the Tehri Garhwal constituency Vijay Bahuguna today criticised the yoga guru for his allegations on Congress politicians, particularly the Nehru-Gandhi family, as a deliberate attempt to put forth the Rashtriya Sewak Sangh (RSS)-BJP agenda.
Talking exclusively to The Tribune here, Vijay Bahuguna, son of former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, advised the yoga guru not to mislead the common public which reverred him due to his social causes, particularly his yoga teaching and curing. “Ramdev is an exert in yoga art, but before foraying into the political field he should learn the yog (calculation) of politics and then point fingers on us. I don’t have any issues of him donating to the BJP party fund, but have strong reservations on his pointing fingers on Congress politicians who have served and are continuing to place the nation before themselves,” said Bahuguna. He said Baba Ramdev was silent on the BJP government in Uttarakhand, be it the Maha Kumbh fund corruption, relief bungling or Rishikesh-situated housing project developed by Sterdia Citurgia Sterdia Chemicals. The court too had termed it as illegal granting of the project by persons from the government and administrative side. The Tehri parliamentarian demanded the backing off of former Uttarakhand High Court Justice BC Kandpal in the Sterdia Developers Company case on moral grounds, as he would be probing the administrative officers who were involved in mass discrepancies involved in the granting of the project, while the same authorities were providing details to the commission which was probing previous Congress state
government scams. “I urge Justice Kandpal either to step down to maintain impartiality and dignity of the judiciary ethics, or that Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank should remove him and appoint another one at the helm,” demanded Bahuguna, who pointed out that the 56 scam allegations by the BJP were nothing but a ploy to divert people’s attention from their governance failure in view of the upcoming state Assembly elections. On the claims made by Nishank of 108 EMRI ambulance mobile service, the Atal Khadyann Yojana, the veteran Congress leader termed these as a fake claims attributing both these schemes as those of the Central government which the BJP was projecting as their own. He said 108 EMRI was being run in several states with 70 pc finance assistance from the Central government, while the Atal Khadyann Yojana had been brought when the Food Security Bill would be presented in Parliament which aimed at providing subsidised food to all the BJP-APL bracket people so the BJP state government was fooling people providing them for just few months ration while it remained silent on this issue since assuming governance in Uttarakhand four years back. Finally, sounding optimistic of the Congress chances of regaining power in upcoming state elections Bahuguna quite happy after the hike of Member of Parliament Local Areas Developmental (MPLAD) fund from Rs 2 to Rs 5 crore said the ball was in the public court where we (Congress) had played a positive play so deserved to be in the hot seat!

Dehradun, March 12
Agitated members of the Ashaskiya Asahyak Manyata Prapt Vidyalaya Sangathan (recognised unaided private schools), took out a rally in support of their demands and gheraoed Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal’s residence here today.
The protesters shouted slogans and held banners to press their demands of enforcing the grant list by the state government. Under the direction of president of the sangathan Vinod Prasad Gargi, the protesters first gathered at the Gandhi Park and then proceeded towards the CM’s residence. However, maintaining a high-handed attitude and to prevent protesters from disturbing the decorum of the city, they were quickly rounded up by a strong police force. The protesters were arrested and sent away in waiting vehicles away from the venue. The protestors accused the authorities of neglecting their demands. “Despite the fact that this agitation was initiated five years ago, the administration has not met our demands yet,” said Gargi. According to information, most of the schools in remote areas of the Kumaon and Garhwal region are in a dilapidated state, while others are on the verge of closure due to the discontented staff working there. “Many of our working staff members are almost crossing the age of retirement. If the state government continues to stay deaf and does not listen to our demands, the sangathan will initiate a fast unto death in front of the Vidhan Sabha,” he added.

Poetry binds where politics divides
Hindutva elements try to disrupt a mushaira in the memory of a Muslim Samajwadi Party leader
Tribune News Service
Nainital, March 12
Efforts by certain right-wing elements to disrupt the peaceful co-existence of communities in Haldwani were once again scuttled by the timely intervention of the police and administration.
The issue this time was the holding of a ‘mushaira’ at the Ramlila Grounds. It is learnt that after having granted permission to organise the event at the venue on Friday night, the Ramlila Grounds Management Committee had withdrawn the permission at the 11th hour, allegedly under pressure from the Hindutva organisations. The organisers were adamant on holding the event there for which they had put in a lot of time, money and effort. In their opinion, the event was being held with a focus on national unity and communal amity. There were consultations between various groups and the administration throughout the day. The administration had earlier tried to wash off its hands by saying that the Ramlila Grounds Management Committee had the sole discretion over matters related to the venue. However, just when the event was about to begin, a large number of people associated with various Hindutva organisations ran towards the grounds trying to barge in. This led to the administration using force against them. This resulted in a commotion in the area with shopkeepers downing their shutters immediately. The protesters then squatted on the Nainital road raising slogans. It is learnt that following a telephonic talk with District Magistrate Shailesh Bagauli, the Samajwadi Party leader and former minister in Uttar Pradesh Azam Khan decided not to turn up for the event. The event finally got off to a slow and shaky start. Soon, the ‘mushaira’ was in its flow with the poets regaling the audience with one rendition after another. It had been organised in the memory of Abdul Rauf Siddiqui, a local Samajwadi Party leader. Although the tension was diffused well in time, observers say that the police and the administration need to be more proactive in their approach towards such
developments.
