New Delhi, January 20.
Punjab will go to the polls on Saturday, February 24, a formal notification to this effect was issued by the President today.
The last date for the filing of nominations for all constituencies is January 27, for scrutiny January 29, and for withdrawals February 1.

Punjab will elect 154 members to the Vidhan Sabha and 22 to Lok Sabha.
With today's notification, covering Punjab, Kerala, Delhi and Himachal, India will elect 494 members to the Lok Sabha and 2,855 to the State Assemblies (excluding Kerala and Orissa).
PTI adds: The notifications in respect of 49 Lok Sabha constituencies in Punjab, Kerala, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh and 154 Assembly constituencies in Punjab were issued today.

Though the notifications prescribe March 31 as the date by which all processes of elections should be completed in all these areas, it is the intention to subsequently amend the notifications to enable the snow-bound areas in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh to go to the polls on a later date.
Notifications in respect of the 41 Territorial Council constituencies of Himachal Pradesh will be issued later. Notifications for 445 Lok Sabha and 2701 Assembly constituencies have already been issued on January 13.
According to the notifications issued, 18 Lok Sabha constituencies in Kerala, four Lok Sabha constituencies in Himachal Pradesh and five Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi the last dates for various formalities are the same as for Punjab.
