Abohar, February 18

Leaders of the BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) announced that they would convert their protest near Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar’s ancestral house in Panjkosi village, about 16 km from Abohar, into a “pucca morcha” till their demands were accepted by the Central Government.

Opening another front, hundreds of farmers stormed the plaza near Gidderanwali village on the Abohar-Sriganganagar stretch of NH 62 and also made it toll-free. They raised slogans in favour of their demands and against the BJP-led Haryana and Central governments.

Jagsir Singh, member, BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) from Bathinda, Malan Kaur, Muktsar district head Harbans Kotli, Charanjit Singh Jaito, Sukhdeep Singh Faridkot, Abohar block head Jagtar Singh and Amritpal Singh criticised the government for not deciding the MSP issue in the past two years.

They said when many organisations under in the Samyukt Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha left for Delhi to stage a protest, they were stopped at the borders of Haryana and tear-gas shells were fired.

This proved that the Centre was trying to suppress the voice of the farmers. In protest, the BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) decided to gherao the houses of three BJP leaders Sunil Jakhar, Captain Amarinder Singh and Kewal Singh Dhillon.

A senior BKU (U) leader said plazas would remain toll-free till February 22. He said till the fulfilment of the demands, their agitation would continue.
