time bomb recovered
GUWAHATI, Dec 19 (PTI) A major disaster was averted today when police defused a massive 51-kg time bomb planted in the petrol tank of a vehicle in the high-security State Secretariats parking lot, a stones throw away from the Assam Chief Ministers office, a day after a car bomb killed eight people nearby. The device, timed to explode at 3.30 pm, was found in an abandoned ambassador car just opposite the offices of Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta and his Cabinet colleagues, official sources said. It is still not known which extremist group had planted the bomb, but the hand of Bodo militants is suspected to be behind yesterdays blast which Mr Mahanta had said might have been aimed at his life.
