Demanded:
The Punjab Ayurvedic Medical Services Association has threatened to launch an agitation if the state government fails to bring parity in the pay scales of ayurvedic and allopathic doctors in Punjab, Dr S.S. Romana, senior vice-president of the association, said here on Tuesday.

MOGA
Agitation: The Punjab Government Pensioners Association at its meeting held under the chairmanship of its president Hardev Singh here on Tuesday, resolved to launch an agitation at the district and subdivision levels on July 10. The association demanded the revision of pension as per the recommendations of the Punjab Fourth Pay Commission.

Honesty: Mr Gulzar Singh a contractor, has proved that honesty still exists. He went to Punjab and Sind Bank to withdraw Rs 28,000 from his account. The cashier instead Rs 28,000 gave him Rs 68,000 by mistake. Mr Gulzar Singh returned the balance amount to the cashier the next day, according to Mr Ram Saroop Sharma, Divisional Superintendent of the Punjab State Tubewell Corporation.

Memorial lecture:
Prof Kirpal Singh, former professor in Punjabi University, stressed the need for understanding and celebrating the Adi Granth as an authentic document which reflected the historical perspective to Punjab while delivering the fourth Principal Iqbal Singh Memorial Lecture here on Sunday. The Vice-Chancellor, Dr J.S. Puar, presided over the function, while Dr H.S. Deol gave a brief account of the activities of the Principal Iqbal Singh Memorial Trust in the fields of academics and social life.


PHAGWARA
Dharna: The Punjab unit of the Bahujan Samaj Party plans a dharna at the tehsil headquarters on July 27 to protest against the hike in octroi and bus Topfares. Mr Avtar Singh Karimpuri, general secretary said at Mehtan village on Monday.
Rallies: The Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union will hold unit rallies at the district and tehsil levels from July 16 to mobilise teachers for the July 21 national-level march to Parliament.

Urged: The Residents Welfare Association on Monday urged the state government to take stern action against the owners of brick kilns who were selling the bricks at a much higher price than fixed by the district authorities. The association alleged that some officials of the Food and Supplies Department were in league with the owners of these brick kilns.
Protested: The Van Mazdoor Union on Monday protested against the illegal felling of trees by certain influential persons in this district and demanded immediate action against them. In a press release the union alleged that certain officials of the Forest Department were involved in this illegal activity.
Two killed: Two members of a family were killed on the spot and two injured when their Maruti car hit a bridge on the GT Road, near Bahalgarh village, on Monday. The killed have been identified as Neelam (37) and her son, Gandharv (16). The injured, Sunil and his daughter, Isha, have been admitted to the local hospital. The family belonged to Kurukshetra.Top

Water supply: The Mewat Development Agency has spent Rs 312 lakh to provide water supply in the Mewat area of this district, according to the Deputy Commissioner. He said that during the past two years 113 Toptubewells were sunk in the area.

Association's plea: The Gurukul Tenants Association, Old Panchkula, has urged the state government not to dislodge from Kharak Mangoli village, before rehabilitating its members in the vicinity of the village.

SONEPAT
Wages fixed: The District Magistrate, Mr P.K. Mahapatra, issued an order on Monday, fixing the wages of various categories of employees. According to official sources, wages of farm labourers have been fixed at Rs 70 per day and Rs 1,800 per month. For bus drivers, at Rs 76 per day and Rs 1,900 per month. Chowkidars will get Rs 70 per day and Rs 1,800 per month, masons will get Rs 142 per day and Rs 3,930 per month, non-diploma holder electricians will get Rs 70 per day and Rs 1,800 per month.

YAMUNANAGAR
Arrested: The local police has arrested the murderer of an 11-year-old girl on Monday. According to Mr Sheel Mathur, Superintendent of Police, the body of Anju, a resident of Bahadurpur, was found in a field byher parents on Saturday. The police arrested Dharmendra, a resident of Bihar, after interrogation. A case under Section 302 of the IPC has been registered at Chhachhrauli police station.
