INSAT-2E placed near orbit
BANGALORE, April 8 (PTI) — India's most advanced satellite, INSAT-2E, was placed close to its geostationary orbit after the 440 Newton thrust liquid apogee motor (LAM) on board the spacecraft was successfully fired again today at 12.35 p.m. Announcing this here, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said that with this orbit-raising manoeuvre operation, the perigee (nearest distance to earth) of INSAT-2E had been raised from 14,600 km to 32,100 km. The apogee (farthest distance to earth) is 35,925 km.

4 feared drowned
HYDERABAD, April 8 (PTI) — Four members of an Indonesian crew were feared drowned when a supply vessel of a foreign company, Drilling Oil and Gas, capsized in the Bay of Bengal yesterday, the police said today. A report from Rajahmundry said seven members of the 11-member crew of the Singapore vessel Britoil-II; were rescued by Oil and Natural Gas commission helicopters. The rest are missing and feared drowned.

NEW DELHI, April 8 (PTI) — The Supreme Court today adjourned till Tuesday hearing in several special leave petitions filed by AIADMK supremo Jayalalitha and other challenging the trial of corruption cases by three special judges.

Cops' prosecution
NEW DELHI, April 8 (PTI) — The CBI today told the Delhi High Court that it had recommended prosecution of three city police officials for "misappropriation" of cash and gold recovered in a raid and departmental action against two senior officials. The CBI said it had recommended the prosecution of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Suraj Bhan, Inspector S.K. Giri and Assistant Sub-inspector Intazar Hussain for "misappropriation" of a huge amount of cash and gold recovered in 1996 from a man allegedly working for Godman Chandraswami.
