Whisky pouches seized in Burail

CHANDIGARH, April 13 — The police has arrested Pardeep Kumar, a resident of Burail village, and recovered 50 pouches of whisky from him.

A case under the Excise Act has been registered.

Case registered
On the complaint of Mr M.P. Kohli, a resident of Sector 28, the police has registered a case against Hargu Lal, a resident of Mani Majra, for selling spurious detergent powder.

As many as 18 packets of the powder weighing 1 kg each have been recovered from him.

The police has registered a case.

Arrested
Two residents of Mani Majra—Parmjit Singh and Raj Kumar—have been arrested by the police from Sector 20 on the charges of eve-teasing.

A case has been registered.

Threatened
Mr Sita Ram, a resident of Sector 16-A, reported to the police that he had been threatened with dire consequences by Ram Saroop of the same sector.

The police has registered a case.

Car stolen
Mr Charanjit Singh, a resident of Sector 34, alleged that his car has been stolen from the Sector 17 parking lot. A case has been registered.

Cash snatched
Kaku and Chander Dev, both residents of Ram Darbar, have been arrested on the charge of snatching cash from Ram Piare.

The police said the accused hired the rickshaw of Ram Piare, a resident of Labour Colony and snatched his cash. A case has been registered.

Buffaloes stolen
Mr Prem Chand, a resident of Kishangarh, in a complaint to the police, alleged that his two buffaloes had been stolen last night.

Case solved
A couple from Jammu, Mr Chaman Lal and Jayshree, who were reportedly kidnapped yesterday, have been traced in Shimla.

The police has sent a team to Shimla for bringing them to the city.Back

Forum orders company to refund money

CHANDIGARH, April 13 — The Chandigarh Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum-I has directed Premier Automobiles Ltd and Fiat India Automobiles Pvt Ltd to refund Rs 21,000 deposited by a Mohali-based consumer on account of booking of an Uno car.

Holding the company responsible for harassing the consumer the forum has awarded Rs 2000 as compensation. The consumer has further been awarded Rs 2000 as compensation.

The order was passed by the forum on a complaint filed by Mr Rajeshwar Kumar, a resident of Phase V in Mohali. He alleged that he deposited the application form for booking the car along with demand draft of Rs 21,000 with the company. On receipt of the application he was issued a priority booking number.

Subsequently, he applied for the cancellation of the booking and his request for the refund did not yield any results.

The forum in its order observed that the company had failed to refund the booking amount within 60 days of the receipt of request of cancellation of booking and had thus put the consumer to unnecessary harassment and mental tension.

The company has also been directed to pay interest on the booking amount till its payment.Back
