Camp held: The local agriculture
development branch of the State Bank of India on
Sunday organised a blood donation camp. It was
inaugurated by Mr P.C. Gupta, Assistant General

Fire mishap: An 8-year-old girl died,
and 18 persons and 32 head of cattle were injured
in a fire which broke out at a dera in Binjon
village, near here. A spark from a bonfire led to
the mishap. The DC and the SDM gave a relief of
Rs 11,000 and Rs 5000, respectively, to the
bereaved family.
Illicit
liquor: The police has seized 600
bottles of illicit liquor from a Tata Sumo at a
check post near Chabbewal village. The driver has
absconded.
HOSHIARPUR
Inaugurated: Mr Tikshan Sud, MLA ,
inaugurated a new counter of swadeshi goods at
Punsup showroom here on Friday. He said it was
the duty of every citizen to adopt swadeshi goods
which would help in solving the unemployment
problem in the country.
Subsidy on
tractors: the Agriculture Department,
Hoshiarpur, will provide nine tractors to the
farmers on subsidised rates during this financial
year, Mr Kundan Lal, Chief Agriculture Officer,
said here on Saturday. He said the interested
farmers should contact the department before
February 25.
JALALABAD
Visit postponed: Chief Minister Parkash
Singh Badal has postponed his visit to Chak
Suhalewala village from February 11 to 14,
probably in view of the SGPC meeting scheduled
for February 10 in Amritsar. He was to lay the
foundation stone of the building of Government
Girls Senior Secondary School at the village.
MALERKOTLA
Condemned: Mrs Sajida Begum, Member,
PPCC, and Mr A.R.Sharma, Executive Member, PPCC,
Beopar Cell, in statements issued here on Sunday
have condemned the attacks on Christians and
raping of a nun in Orissa on Friday. The leaders
alleged that the BJP government had failed to
provide security to the minorities in the
country.
MOGA
No toilets: Resentment prevails among
daily commuters here, particularly women and
girls, over the non-availability of toilets at
the Punjab Roadways bus stand in Baghapurana
town, 15 km from here. They have urged the
authorities concerned to look into the matter.
Murder:
Certain armed persons murdered Nasib Kaur with
sharpedged weapons when she was asleep, and
seriously injured her relative, Kuldip Kaur, at
Maurnaubad village recently.
NANGAL
2 killed: Two brothers, Rakesh Kumar and
Vinod Kumar, were killed when their scooter
collided with a Mahindra Armada on
Nangal-Anandpur road. Rakesh Kumar died on the
spot while Vinod Kumar succumbed to his injuries
at CMC Hospital, Ludhiana. The driver of the
Armada has absconded.
PATIALA
Canal plan drafted: The Punjab
Government has drafted a plan to construct a
canal for providing irrigation facilities to
deprived villages in Ropar, Fatehgarh Sahib and
Patiala districts. This was stated by Capt
Kanwaljit Singh, Finance Minister, Punjab, at
Ghanaur village. He was addressing a meeting of
party workers for the preparation of a SAD
conference to be held here on February 12.
Eye
operation camp: The local Lions Club
will hold a week-long free eye operation camp
from February 9 to 16 at Sauja village, near
here. This has been stated by its President, Col
G.B. Singh.
PHAGWARA
Strangulated to death: The police on
Saturday arrested Gurmel Ram under Section 302,
IPC, of Khangura village for strangulating to
death his 40-year-old wife, Tarsem Kaur, on
Friday. According to a report lodged by Sewa
Singh, brother of Tarsem Kaur, Gurmel used to
harass his sister.
SANGRUR
Blood donation camp: The Red Cross
organised a blood donation camp at Saheed Udham
Singh Government College, Sunam, on Saturday. As
many as 35 students donated blood.
