Meeting: A meeting of the Punjab Halwai
Committee and the Punjab Bakery Association was
held here under the chairmanship of Mr Avinash
Chander and Mr S.S. Bindra. During the meeting,
members criticised the government for the
imposition of 1 per cent sales tax on various
ingredients used by the bakers and sweet shop
owners.PATIALA
Condemned: Dr Satwant Singh Mohi, member,
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, in a statement
here on Thursday condemned the manner in which
the Navy chief Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat, was
sacked. He said such decisions had to be handled
carefully.
Pharmacists: Pharmacists of Patiala,
Nawanshahr and Muktsar districts will stage a
dharna in front of the Civil Surgeon's office and
the Deputy Commissioner's office in respective
districts on January 8 in protest against the
non-implementation of their demands. Their
demands include the enhancement of pay scales and
grant of time-bound scales.
Camp: The Youth Service, Punjab, organised a
10-day NSS camp at Rajpura colony here.
Government Girls Senior Secondary School and
Shakuntala Girls Senior Secondary School
participated in the camp. The students visited
various slums and educated people about literacy
and cleanliness.
HOSHIARPUR
Boy recovered: Sanjiv Kumar Handa who was
allegedly kidnapped on Thursday from his shop was
recovered. Mr R.P. Mittal, SSP, said here on
Friday that the kidnappers had been identified
and a case had been registered under Sections 364
and 34, IPC.
MOGA
Elected: The following have been elected
office-bearers of the Punjab Raj Khetibari
Sekhari Sabha, Moga district: President Mr
Hardev Singh; Vice-Presidents Mr Balwinder
Singh and Mr Sukhdev Singh; and Secretary
Mr Gurmel Singh.
Accident: Three persons were injured when
their car collided with another vehicle on the
Moga-Ludhiana road on Thursday. The accident
occurred due to thick fog.
KAPURTHALA
Farewell: A function was organised at the
local MD SD Senior Secondary School on Thursday
to bid farewell to Mr S.P. Khanna, Principal of
the school, who retired after serving the school
for 22 years.
