Elected: Mr Maninder Jit Singh Dimpy was unanimously elected Vice-President of the local Municipal council, at a meeting of the Councillors on Tuesday.

LUDHIANA
Refresher courses:
The Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, PAU, here is organising two refresher training courses on poultry. The first course will be held from July 12 to 21, for poultry assistants. The second course will be for poultry inspectors and will last from August 2 to 11.

Animal welfare camp: The Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, PAU, here organised an Animal Welfare Camp in collaboration with the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Rauni, Patiala, at Samla village on Thursday. Dr J.S. Kular, Director of Extension Education, PAU, presided over the function.

Handpumps registration: The Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, has by a notification, made it obligatory for the owners of handpumps with electric motor to register their handpumps.

Police drive:
The police has arrested Ramesh Kumar of Gadian, Megh Bahadur of Rajpura, Ram Dass Sharma of Giddarbaha and recovered sharp edged weapons from their possessions said Mr Surinder Singh Saini DSP.

NAWANSHAHR
Repair of bundh:
Mr Amar Chand and Mr Hardas Ram sarpanches of Tajowal and Mehandipur Mandala villages respectively on Wednesday urged the Deputy Commissioner, Dr Roshan Sunkaria, to immediately get repair work of 7 to 8 studs, 2 spurs done and to construct stone revetment so as to give more strength to the Dhussi Bundh along the Sutlej at Tajowal Complex, one of the most sensitive points. A breach at this point can flood 20 to 25 villages.

Replanted:
Dr Manjit Singh Dhaliwal of the local Civil Hospital here has successfully replanted a severed thumb of a patient, Bahadur Singh, of Kakrala Kalan village.

Foundation day: The NRI branch of the State Bank of India celebrated its foundation day as anti-malarial day here on Thursday. Established on July 1, 1955, the bank completed its 44 years of services. A camp was arranged with the help of the anti-malarial wing of the Municipal Corporation.

Civil defence wardens: The Deputy Commissioner-cum-Controller, Civil Defence, UT, has asked all the civil defence wardens recruited till date to report to the civil defence control room situated in the basement of the Central State Library, Sector 17 along with a list of sector wardens under their control. They are also required to bring their identity cards on any working day between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. within 10 days from Thursday.

Appointed: Mrs Kanta Bhayana has been appointed Senior Vice-President of the Block Congress, SAS Nagar.

HISAR
Effigy burnt:
An effigy of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr Nawaz Sharif, was burnt by students of ITI near Ambedkar Chowk at Hansi town, about 26 km from here on Wednesday, to protest against Pakistan's involvement in Kargil and the torture of Indian soldiers captured by their army. They observed a two-minute silence to pay homage to the Indian soldiers who laid down their lives in Kargil.

Blood donation: Nearly 116 persons including women donated blood at a voluntary blood donation camp organised jointly by the Hisar Blood Donors Society and the Sewa Samiti Charitable Trust in Jakhal Mandi on Tuesday.

ROHTAK
Demonstration:
The Joint Action Committee of the Haryana State Electricity Board Workers Union and the All-Haryana Power Corporation Karamchari Union has decided to take part in a protest demonstration proposed to be organised by various employees unions here on July 7. The leaders of the two unions met on Wednesday and urged the Chief Minister to negotiate with representatives of the Joint Action Committee.

Murdered: Jai Bhagwan, a son of Lakhi Ram was allegedly murdered and his body was set afire in a field by some persons at Tandaheri village in Bahadurgarh subdivision of Jhajjar district on Tuesday.

Loot: Four persons looted Rs 1.50 lakh from a liquor shop at gunpoint from the Industrial area here on Thursday.

Murdered: Deepak, a class-III pupil was murdered while he was returning home from school on Wednesday. He was an adopted child of Hukam Chand of Bohar village. In another incident the police also found a body from a canal near Gilaur Kalan village.

Car stolen:
Car of Dr Sohan Lal of Mandi Kalanwali was reportedly stolen on Saturday last by his neighbours at Sangam Marriage Place at Kalwanwali, 40 km from here. According to sources Hardev Singh and Kala Singh neighbours of the doctor were rounded up by the Punjab Police near Vheema barrier when they were going to Patiala for selling the stolen car. The police has registered a case.

Arrested: Bablu alias Arjun and his father Sat Narian of Chautala village were arrested by the Mandi Dabwali police on Tuesday on the charges of murder and attempt to murder in a case registered against them under Sections 302, 207, 323, 148, 149, 34 of the IPC on the complaint of Mr Rajinder Bisnoi of Chamarkhera village in Sangria in Rajasthan in which it was alleged that Sat Narain and his son Bablu and his wife Mrs Savitri along with one other accused assaulted Dhani of Darshan Singh brother of Sat Narian near Chautala village in this district on June 16 last and opened fire in which Chhottu brother of the complainant received gun shot injuries and was shifted to Sangria where he succumbed to his fire arm injuries next day.

Dowry death: Mrs Balbir Kaur mother of Binder was arrested in a dowry death case by the Sirsa police on Tuesday. Mr B.S. Sandhu, Senior Superintendent of Police, Sirsa said here on Wednesday that Bhupinder Singh of Manwala village in Sirsa district alleged that his sister was married to Binder Singh of Gobindgarh in Sirsa district and strangled by her-in-laws for more dowry on June 9. A criminal case under Section 304-B, 34 of the IPC was registered against her mother-in-law, father-in-law, and her husband. Binder and his father have been arrested.

Poppy husk seized: Chaina Ram Kumhar of Sharad village in Rajasthan was arrested by Kalanwali police near Takatmal village Railway crossing on Tuesday and recovered 3 kg of opium milk from his possession. Mr Baljeet Singh Sandhu, SSP, Sirsa, said here on Wednesday that police also arrested Harcharan Singh of Desujodhan village in this district on Tuesday and recovered 40 kg of poppy husk from his possession. He added that the police also arrested Budh Ram Bishnoi, a driver of Tanduranwali village in Rajasthan and recovered 80 kg of poppy husk from his possession which was being carried by the accused in a jeep for smuggling. The police also arrested two persons from various places of this district and recovered 11 kg of poppy husk from their possession, the SSP added.

Accident: Rajinder Kumar (28) a plumber of local Subhash Basti died in a road accident here near Moriwala village in this district on Tuesday. He was going in his fields and was hit by an unidentified vehicle and died on the spot. The body was cremated after a post-mortem examination on Tuesday and a case has been registered.

SONEPAT
Loans:
The Government of Haryana had fixed a target of Rs 278.42 crore for giving loans under the Integrated Rural Development Programme (IRDP) in this district during the current financial year. This was stated by Mr P.K. Mahapatra, Deputy Commissioner, while addressing members of the District Review Committee of bankers here on Tuesday.

Memorandum: The Residents of Sonepat, on Tuesday sent a memorandum to the Chief Minister , Mr Bansi Lal, demanding a high-level probe in the complaints about the unequal distribution of rationed commodities, particularly levy sugar and kerosene, by certain depot-holders, allegedly in connivance with officials of the department concerned.

Yoga camp ends: The five-day yoga and astrology camp, organised by Shri Yoga Abhyas Ashram, concluded here on Tuesday. A large number of men, women and children took part in the camp.

Embezzlement: The police has registered a criminal case under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 406 of the IPC against Satpal Sharma, a cashier of the Kanya Gurukul Khanpur Kalan and Gurukul Vidyapeeth Bhainswal Kalan and some others for alleged misappropriation of more than Rs 1.27 lakh. According to the police Major Chander Singh, General Secretary, of the Mahasabha alleged that these persons had embezzled the amount and had not shown it in the expenditure of the institutions.

Postponed: The Haryana Government has postponed the recruitment of police constables in this district. No reason has been given in this regard.

Suicides: Body of Partap (32) was found hanging in his house at Bayyanpur village, 3 km from here on Wednesday. The police believes it to be a case of suicide. According to another report, two more cases of suicide were reported in this city on Wednesday. The victims have been identified as Mrs Kamlesh (26) of Shastri Colony, Sonepat and Saroj alias Renu (20) of Vijay Nagar, Sonepat. According to the police , both victims consumed poison to end their lives.

A medical camp was organised on Thursday in the State Bank of India branch here to commemorate Banks Day.

Link road:
The State Government has decided to link Kugti a tribal village in Bharmour subdivision with Hadsar, another village 16 km away by the end of current financial year. An official spokesman said here on Wednesday that the work on this link road was nearing completion.

HAMIRPUR
Fast:
Clerical employees of the police department observed a day's fast on Thursday in response to a call given by their state body to protest against the failure of the government to promote them. A spokesman for the fasting police personnel told reporters here on Thursday that the state government was discriminating against them in the matter of promotions. He said while constables were getting timely promotions and others facilities, they were being ignored for no fault of theirs.

MANDI
Cops' resentment:
Transfer orders of 50 police personnel of the district cadre to the 3rd Battalion of the Himachal police, Pandoh, has been resented. It is alleged that the exercise had been done to accommodate constables of other districts here in violation of the Punjab Police Service rules applicable to Himachal Pradesh also.

SHIMLA
Missing:
Mr Budhi Singh, a Junior Engineer of the Public Works Department, posted in the Medical College division, here , has been missing since June 20. Ms Hansa Devi, his wife said he was suffering from depression. She has lodged an FIR with the police.
