Protest in Indonesia
JAKARTA, July 19 (Reuters) — As many as 100 demonstrators protested outside the offices of Indonesia's Election Committee today, rejecting a second term for President B.J. Habibie in November's presidential vote. Protesters from the "anti-status quo movement" wearing headbands were watched by around 100 riot police personnel as they chanted slogans outside the central Jakarta offices. They also brought a type of stretcher normally used for a corpse, bearing the words "Goodbye Habibie". The protesters denounced "money politics" and distributed leaflets criticising the ruling Golkar Party for corruption.
