HVP starts exercise for poll GURGAON, July 19 The ruling Haryana Vikas Party (HVP), whose government faces a threat in Haryana, has begun exercises for a possible mid-term assembly elections along with parliamentary elections in the state. The talks between the HVP, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Sarb Hind Shiromani Akali Dal (SHSAD) for an electoral alliance between the three is in the advanced stage. Although the talks for the number of seats to be shared between the three political parties is being kept under wraps, sources say the BSP has asked for 35 Assembly seats and the Akali Dal for five seats. There are 90 Assembly seats in the state. Out of the 10 Lok Sabha seats, the BSP is rooting for half of them. The sources said the SHSAD had not yet decided whether it would put up nominees on its own symbol or choose between the HVP and the BSPs symbols. In any case, the SHSAD would take into confidence the major partner in the possible HVP-BSP-SHSAD alliance for the selection of its nominees for the Assembly elections. For the Lok Sabha seats, the SHSAD was likely to be given the privilege of being consulted in the selection of nominees in at least one parliamentary seat. Although the talks regarding the identification of the seats to be given to the BSP and the Akali Dal was yet to take a final shape, the SHSAD was likely to pitch in for the Assembly constituencies bordering Punjab and which had substantial Sikh population. The BSP chief Mr Kanshi Ram, had already gone on record that there would be an alliance between his party, the HVP and the SHSAD. The sources added that Mr Surender Singh, a former MP of the HVP from Bhiwani and son of Chief Minister Bansi Lal, was negotiating with Mr Kanshi Ram and Mr Tohra for the possible alliance. The involvement of the SHSAD has added a new dimension to the Haryanas politics. Since the formation of Haryana in 1966, no Akali Dal from Punjab directly contested assembly or Lok Sabha elections. The Chief Minister of Punjab, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, and his party had earlier supported Mr Devi Lal and his political outfit in elections in the state. Mr Devi Lal and his political outfits had earlier roped in Mr Badal to cut ice with the Sikh population of the state. The BSP has so far not contested Assembly elections in Haryana in alliance with any political party. It has, however, contested parliamentary elections with the INLD in the last General Elections. The INLD-BSP combine had won five seats between them, besides putting up a tough fight in the prestigious Bhiwani seat against Mr Surender Singh of the HVP. Mr Ajay Chautala, son of Mr Om Prakash Chautala, was the INLD nominee against Mr Surender Singh. The HVPs talks
with the BSP and the SHSAD in terms of assembly seats
assumes significance. Many see this as an indication of
second thoughts in the HVP regarding the longevity of the
Bansi Lal government, especially after the BJP withdrew
support. |

In-charges of power substations of various sectors receivers of telephones on the table and avoid hearing complaints of affected residents allege harassed residents, who go to power complaint offices, raise anti-Bansi Lal slogans and return frustrated cursing employees of powerhouse sub-stations. Stock reply of powerhouse sub-stations staff is that due to old wiring and overloading of transformers, power supply is disrupted and we are helpless. The residents alleged that power house officials supply regular power to influential owners of various work-shops, running unauthorisedly in various colonies after taking regular monthly payment from them. This was the main reason for frequent interruption in supply of power to residents of various colonies, they added. This had led to increase in load and frequent power failure.
