Gujarat Govt bans PTV
GANDHINAGAR, June 2 (PTI) The Gujarat Government
has banned telecast of programmes relayed by Pakistan
Television (PTV) in the state with immediate effect,
Minister of State for Home Haren Pandya said here today.
He told reporters the decision was taken because PTV was
indulging in anti-India campaign and spreading
misinformation about the Kargil development. Mr Pandya
said the state government had asked the district
administrations to make the ban effective on the PTV and
all foreign channels that may be indulging in anti-India
campaign. The cable operators had been informed
accordingly about the governments decision, the
minister added. The state government had yesterday
delegated powers to Collectors of six districts to detain
anti-social elements under the National Security Act
(NSA), Mr Pandya added.Wage Board report by June-end
PATNA, June 2 (PTI) The Manisana Wage Board for
journalists and non-journalists will submit its
"final report" to the government by the end of
this month, Union Labour Minister SN Jatia said today.
"The commission has already submitted its interim
report long back.... We expect that it will give a final
shape to the report by the end of June." Mr Jatia
told reporters. He said the commission was earlier due to
submit its final recommendation by May 31, "But it
could not do so due to some unavoidable reasons."
Delhi fire toll
44
NEW DELHI, June 2 (FOC) The death toll in Lal Kuan
fire tragedy has risen to 44 today with 14 more victims
succumbing to burns which they sustained in fire on
Monday. According to the doctors at the hospital, 14 fire
victims died at the hospital till this morning. They said
that 22 victims are still undergoing treatment. They are
in serious condition as they received 70 per cent burn
injuries.
LTTE withdraws
call
COLOMBO, June 2 (PTI) Bowing to the Public
pressure Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka have withdrawn their
month-long call to the government employees of Northern
Jaffna to abstain from work on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Sources in Jaffna said the withdrawal of the
"orders" was communicated to the heads of the
government departments today through a letter written by
"Jaffna commander" of the rebel group,
Thooyavan.
