FAZILKA
Funds disbursed
: Mr Sher Singh, MLA, Jalalabad, distributed cheques worth Rs 1 lakh among sarpanches of Ghaniani, Rana, New Rana, Baghewala, Abhun, Sohna Ram, Gaganke, and Ghattianwali villages. To cheques were presented at a function held at Rana village, 6 km from here, on Monday. He also laid a foundation stone of a community centre to be constructed in government school of Rana village at a cost of Rs 7 lakh.

FEROZEPORE
DCC meeting:
A meeting of the District Congress Committee will be held at Congress Bhavan here on June 10 to chalk out programme for the coming Lok Sabha poll. According to the DCC Secretary, Mr Ajit Singh Bhalla, the meeting will be presided over by the party's district President, Mr Gurbir Singh Sandhu.

LUDHIANA
CM expresses concern:
The Punjab Chief Minister, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, on Sunday conveyed his concern to the chief of the Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings, Mr Inderjit Singh Pardhan, over the death of his wife, Swaran kaur. Speaking at the bhog of Sri Akhand Path at the residence of Mr Pardhan, Mr Badal said one should draw inspiration from the lives of those people who had dedicated their lives for the welfare of society.

MALERKOTLA
Cheques distributed:
Mr Surjit Singh Barnala, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers, distributed cheques worth Rs 16.50 lakh among 33 panchayats of this subdivision on Sunday. He switched on 24-hour power supply to Bhagiwal, Flound Khurd and Flound Kalan villages.

Water shortage:
Resentment prevails among residents of Saunad village over the failure of the Public Health Department (Rural Water Supply) to provide water connections to villagers Mehnga Singh, sarpanch of the village said though the residents had deposited the securities but the department failed to provide them connections.

Urged: A meeting of the local Press Club was held here on Sunday under the chairmanship of Mr S.P. Sharma. He urged the Deputy Commissioner to set up a press room at DC complex.

Businessman looted: Two miscreants armed with lathis attacked a local petrol pump owner, Mr Ved Parkash Laroyia, and his servant, and snatched a bag containing Rs 80,000 from them at the Geeta Bhavan road here on Sunday. They were admitted to the local Civil Hospital. The police has registered a case.

Meeting: A meeting of the Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association was held at Rahon on Sunday under the chairmanship of Mr Sadhu Singh Kahlon, Chairman of the association. The problems being faced by them and widows of ex-servicemen were discussed at the meeting. The association urged the Defence Minister to implement the one rank, one pension concept.

Training camp: Monsanto Chemicals in collaboration with Khalsa Beej Bhandar organised a farmers training camp at Chuharpu village on Saturday. Mr Terry Bun, MD, Monsanto Chemicals, presided over the camp in which as many as 500 farmers and farm women participated.top

Marriage solemnised: Members of Lions Club, Kansal, and Deep Complex, Hallo majra, on Monday solemnised the marriage of a poor girl out of their resources. Mr Satya Pal Jain, a former MP, was the chief guest.

Demanded: In a joint statement issued on Monday, the sarpanches of Janta colony and Naya Gaon village have demanded a nagar panchayat for the development of the area..

School activities: The Bhavan Vidyalaya school in Sector 15 is holding sports and extra-curricular activities during summer vacations. The Principal of the school, Ms Shashi Banerjee, said on Monday that this included a workshop for orientation of students to make them good citizens, a theatre workshop and coaching camps in basketball, handball, judo and roller skating.

AMBALA
Function:
Shri G.R.S.D. Senior Secondary School (Sargodha), Ambala city, will celebrate its golden jubilee on Tuesday. Mr Laxman Singh, Member, Rajya Sabha, will be the chief guest, according to Mr Shankar Kashyap, Principal of the school.

FARIDABAD
Two held:
The police has arrested two criminals allegedly responsible for murdering four persons, including a constable. They are identified as Harpal of Budena village and Raju, alias Rajendra, of Macholi village. A police spokesman said here on Monday that a country-made pistol and cartridges were recovered from the possession of Raju. The police has also arrested Ramu and Ram Niwas of Jind and Rohtak, respectively, for looting Rs 40,000 from Kishori Lal.

REWARI
Sentenced:
Mr M. M. Sharma, Additional Sessions Judge, has awarded life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 300 to three brothers, Balbir, Om Parkash and Babu Lal, residents of Keshopur village, under the Bawal police station, for murdering Sarti Devi (65), wife of their neighbour, Kanhi Ram, in June, 1993.

Bank organisation: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Gurgaon Gramin Bank Scheduled Castes, Tribes Employees and Officers Organisation: President — Mr K B Chaudhary; Vice-President — Mr Mewa Ram; General Secretary — Mr Krishan Kumar Jatav; and Treasurer — Mr Narsingh Chauhan.

ROHTAK
Murder:
Debi Singh, a resident of Gugaheri village, was allegedly murdered by Mahender in the village on Sunday. The police has registered a case under Section 302, IPC.

SIRSA
Deputation:
A deputation of Congress activists of the Darba assembly segment met Ms Selja, a former Union Minister and protested against the expulsion of Dr Mohinder Pratap, a former Chairman, Haryana Ayurvedic Board, from the Congress for six years. They threatened to resign from the Congress in case he is not reinstated in the Congress.

BILASPUR
Threat:
A meeting of the district executive committee of the H.P. State Tailoring and Cutting Craft Teachers Association was held at Ghumarwin, on Sunday. The association resented the Government decision to retrench the teachers working in panchayat tailoring centres. The association threatened to gherao the office of the District Collectorate on June 16 in case the teachers were not regularised.

SHIMLA
Counselling centre:
The district administration has decided to open a counselling centre for drug addicts here. The centre will be inaugurated by the Governor, Mrs V.S. Ramadevi, on Friday on the premises of the Deputy Commissioner office.
