AMRITSAR
Fake currency seized:
The BSF seized fake Indian currency notes and explosives following a brief exchange of fire with two Pakistani intruders near the border outpost of Burj in the Lopoke sub-sector on Friday. The officials said here on Saturday that during search they found a bag containing Rs 19.5 lakh besides 12 packets of explosives, a revolver along with two magazines and 16 cartridges.

GURDASPUR
Two arrested:
The police arrested Pankaj Pardhan and Suraj Pradhan, residents of Nawan Gram, Dharamsala, for their alleged involvement in thefts. According to Mr Varinder Kumar, SSP, a scooter was recovered from their possession. They were arrested near Sohal, 10 km from here, on Saturday.

HOSHIARPUR
Poppy seized:
The police has recovered a large quantity of poppy husk. Mr R.P. Mittal, SSP, said here on Sunday that during checking 16 bags containing 612 kg poppy husk had been recovered from a tractor-trailer and arrested Kamaljit Singh Salim and Sohanlal.

JALANDHAR
Inaugurated:
The Health and Family Welfare Minister, Mr Manoranjan Kalia, inaugurated a TB detection and treatment camp in Basti Guzan here on Saturday. He announced that 421.8 crore would be spent for better health care under the Punjab Health System Corporation. He assured that the construction work of the Civil Hospital would be completed within 21 months.

Murder: Bishan Das (42) was found murdered at his home in Arya Nagar, Kartarpur, on Saturday, the police said. He was hit with a lethal weapon on his head resulting in his death. A case of murder has been registered on a complaint of his brother, Mr Amarjit Singh.

Road mishap: Jagtar (24) was killed by getaway vehicle on Friday near Udesian village. In another incident Seema suffered burns in a stove burst at home in Sofi village on Thursday. She succumbed to her injuries in Guru Nanak Mission Hospital on Saturday. Their bodies were handed over to their relatives after post-mortem at the Civil Hospital on Saturday.

NANGAL
Seminar:
A seminar on "Water Pollution" was organised at Nikku Nangal village under the National Environment Awareness campaign. The seminar was organised by Arpan, a NGO.

NAWANSHAHR
Awareness programme:
The Sakharata Committee of Sanawa village, in collaboration with the gram panchayat, organised a literary awareness programme in the village. Mr A.K. Sikka, SDM- cum-Secretary, District Literacy Society, inaugurated the campaign. A cleanliness drive was also launched.

Course: A five-day training course on preservation of fruits and vegetables was organised for educated unemployed rural girls at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Langroya, 5 km from here, concluded on Friday. As many as 34 girls were given training. Dr Roshan Sunkaria, Deputy Commissioner, was present on the concluding day.

PHAGWARA
Businessman robbed:
Mr Mohinder Khanna was admitted to the Civil Hospital on Friday when three miscreants allegedly fired at him and robbed him of Rs 4,000 outside his shop at the Banga road on Friday. In another incident, miscreants looted a liquor shop at Bhullarai village.

SAMRALA
Rally:
The PSEB Employees Federation of Samrala unit held a gate rally in front of the division office here on Saturday. The circle President, Mr Karam Chand, criticised the policies of the PSEB.
No working day: Lawyers of the local Bar Association, observed no working day here on Saturday. The Secretary of the association, Mr Shiv Kumar Kalyan, said following the call given by the Punjab Lawyers Association on April 3 they were not attending courts on Saturdays.

Robbery:
A robbery in a farmhouse at Pakhoke village on Friday has terrorised residents of the area. According to sources, the dacoits, numbering more than five, armed with weapons entered the farmhouse of Mr Joginder Singh at 11 p.m. and took away cash, ornaments and other valuable articles. The police has registered a case.

FATEHABAD
Stone laid:
The Haryana Development and Panchayat Minister, Mr Kanwal Singh, laid the foundation stone of a mini secretariat at Dariyapur village in this district on Saturday. The building will be constructed over an area of 1.5 acres with a cost of Rs 12 lakh.

Case registered: The police has registered a case of rape against five persons on a complaint of two women of Bighar village in this district. The women also met the DIG, the DC and the SP in this connection. The case has been registered under Sections 376,452,427,325,148 and 149 of the IPC against Ram Bai, Suba Ram, Parkash, Roshan and Arjun.

SIRSA
Poppy recovered:
The police conducted a raid near Mithri village in this district on Friday and recovered 70 kg of poppy husk from a Maruti car. However, the suspects managed to escape.

Appointed: Mr K.D. Sharma, Sub-Divisional Officer, Irrigation Department, Haryana, was appointed Executive Engineer, Irrigation Department, Rori division, by the state Government on Friday.

One held: Desraj, an employee of milk plant, was arrested here on Friday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 from a driver who was engaged in transportation of milk.

SONEPAT
Three arrested:
With the arrest of three persons, the Sadar police has solved a case of robbery committed on the Sonepat-Rathdhanna road on April 14. Mr K. Selvraj, SSP, said here on Saturday that the arrested have been identified as Bijender of Garhmirakhpur village, Subhash and Mukesh of Panchsheel Colony, Sonepat. The police has found Rs 5,900 from their possession.

Selected: The Taekwando Martial Art Association has selected Subhash Dhor and Yogesh of Gohana for taking part in the international meets at Bangkok, Malaysia and Singapore.

Janata darbar: Mr Jagbir Singh Malik, Minister of State for Horticulture and Marketing, will hold an open darbar on Monday at Gohana.

Prize given: The Commissioner of Rohtak division, Dr G. Prasanna Kumar, gave away 500 gm gold as a prize to Mr Daryao Singh, a resident of Dabarpur village, at a function here on Saturday. Mr Daryao Singh won the prize in a draw of Haryana Golden Jubilee Small Savings Scheme held last month.

Arrested: The police arrested Rajesh of Jiwan Nagar in connection with the alleged kidnapping of five-year-old boy, Shivam, son of Mr Sunil Goel a local trader, on May 5. According to the police, he had kidnapped the boy and taken to Kota in Rajasthan for ransom.top

Truck union:
Mr Geet Ram Sharma, a truck operator, has been elected Chairman of the District Truck Operators Union at Barmana, near here, on Friday.

KANGRA
Ten injured:
Ten passengers were injured when a bus in which they were travelling met with an accident at Tangroti village, 18 km from here, on Saturday, according to the police. The bus was on its way to Dharamsala when its break fails. The injured were admitted to the Yol hospital and the Zonal hospital, Dharamsala.

Medical camp: A three-day free homoeopathic medical camp organised at the Gurdwara road concluded on Saturday. As many as 200 patients were examined. The camp was organised by a team of doctors headed by Dr Hans Raj Sharma.

KULU
Two arrested:
A team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested Om Parkash, a resident of Akhnoor, and Pinki Devi, a resident of Rajouri, from a guest house at Manali on Saturday. The sources said Om Parkash had allegedly abducted Pinki.

SHIMLA
VC's order flayed:
The non-teaching employees of Himachal Pradesh University held a gate meeting to protest against the 'vindictive' transfer of Mr Subhash Puri, by the Vice-Chancellor. They alleged that Mr Puri, who represents the non-teaching employees in the executive council, had been transferred because he complained to the Governor about the violation of norms by the authorities.

Medical facilities: Army Training Command, Shimla, has employed a lady doctor and dental technician in MI room and dental centre, respectively. This is in addition to the existing medical officer and dental surgeon. These will provide additional medical facilities to ex-servicemen and their families, besides those available at M H, Jutogh.

SOLAN
Fire:
As many as 42 goats were reportedly burnt in a fire in three cattle sheds at Khoya Khurd village in Bhlojnajar panchayat of this district on Friday. Mr Dhani Ram lost 10 goats, while his neighbours, Mr Sant Ram and Mr Sohan Singh, lost 24 and eight, respectively.
