CMs' meeting on Nov 16
UJJAIN, Nov 12 (UNI) Union Finance Minister
Yashwant Sinha has convened a meeting of Chief Ministers
on November 16 to discuss the deteriorating fiscal health
of states. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh
told newspersons here that the meeting was likely to
discuss ways and means to deal with the problem to evolve
a consensus among political parties. Besides, the meeting
would also discuss the value added tax (VAT) system, he
added.2
wagons derailed
AMBALA, Nov 12 (FOC) Two wagons of an empty goods
train derailed near Dhulkot, 3 km from here early today.
The derailment disrupted the traffic on the
Ambala-Chandigarh rail section for about six hours. The
Shatabdi Express was also delayed. The cause of the
derailment has not been established so far. The railway
authorities have ordered an inquiry into the incident.
Pak aircraft
NEW DELHI, Nov 12 (PTI) A Pakistan International
Airlines (PIA) aircraft overflying India today made an
emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport
here following a technical snag, airport sources said.
All passengers including the crew were unhurt. The crew
of PIA-807, which was on its way to Karachi after taking
off from Kathmandu, made a request for emergency landing
in the afternoon, Air Traffic Control (ATC) sources said.
Foggia death
toll
FOGGIA, Nov 12 (DPA) Rescue teams in the southern
Italian city of Foggia had retrieved 24 bodies this
morning from the ruins of a five-storey building which
collapsed on Thursday. Italian state television reported
today that 45 persons were still missing and that rescue
teams had worked through the night in the hope of finding
survivors.
Tripura bandh
AGARTALA, Nov 12 (PTI) Normal life was disrupted
in Tripura today by a dawn-to-dusk bandh called by major
opposition parties demanding the dismissal of the Left
Front government in the state for the alleged failure to
curb militancy. Shops and business establishments
remained closed and vehicles were off the roads. Schools,
colleges, financial institutions and banks also remained
closed. Normal attendance was, however, reported from
state government offices.
