FEROZEPORE
Computerised: The local cantonment branch of the State Bank of India was fully computerised on Monday. The AGM of the bank's zonal office at Ludhiana, Mr P.C. Sharma, presided over the inaugural ceremony. Mr Sharma said this was the first branch of the SBI which had been computerised in the district. With computerisation in place, the working hours of the branch from Monday to Friday would be between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. instead of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. instead of 10 a.m. to 12 o'clock, he added.

NAWANSHAHR
Medical camp: The Guru Nanak Mission Medical and Education Trust, Dhahan Kaleran, organised a free medical check-up camp in collaboration with Helpage India and NRIs at Dharamkot village on Sunday. Mr Budh Singh Dhahan, president of the trust, inaugurated the camp As many as 35 eye operations were performed.

PHAGWARA
Arrested:
The police has arrested a proclaimed offender thus solving a double murder case. The SHO (Sadar police station) said here on Monday that Dhanraj of Khati village had fled after strangulating Dharamchand and Gurdialram of the same village in 1996.

ROPAR
Free medical camp:
The local Rotary Club organised a free multi-speciality medical camp at Maharaj Braham Sagar Brahamanand Bhuri Wale College at Tibba Nangal village near Nurpur Bedi on Sunday. According to Mr S.K. Bhatia, Principal of the college, about 900 patients were examined for various diseases of eyes, ENT, chest, teeth, skin and gynae, besides others. Medicines were distributed free of cost among needy patients.

Seminar:
The local branch of the Indian Medical Association organised a district-level seminar on medical update here on Sunday.

Dharna: A dharna to protest against the alleged anti-industry policies of the Haryana Financial Corporation began outside the office of the corporation on Monday. The call for the dharna was given by the Collective Action Against Corruption.

PANCHKULA
Alternative sites:
Shopkeepers in the motor market in Old Panchkula appealed to the General Secretary of the Indian National Lok Dal, Mr Pradeep Chaudhary, on Monday to help them obtain alternative sites for their shops. They have been served with notices by the Haryana Urban Development Authority.

Camp: Over 150 patients were examined at a free medical camp at Sherawali Mandir in Rajiv Colony on Sunday. Patients were given free medicines at the camp organised by the Priya Sharma Charitable Trust under the Reproductive and Child Health programme launched by the district health authorities.top

Honoured:
Dr O.P Toky, Professor of Forestry, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, has been honoured with the fellowship of the prestigious National Academy of Agricultural Sciences for his contributions of the field of agroforestry.

SIRSA
Injured:
Pratap Singh of Ellenabad was allegedly seriously injured by Deviram, his wife and two sons on Sunday. According to sources, he had a land dispute with the accused.

INLD worker dead: Samporan Singh (33), worker of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) succumbed to his accident injuries at the local Civil Hospital here on Sunday. He had received serious injuries when he lost balance and his scooter skidded on the road.

Man eats poison: Rhompa (45) died at the local civil hospital here on Sunday after he had consumed poison in his house.

Murder case: Dinesh of Darba village was arrested in a case of murder here on Sunday. The SP said here on Monday that the accused had allegedly opened fire at the local Suratgarhia Chowk on Omparkash Phutela, Jagdish and Bedi, liquor contractors. One Sube Singh had died on the spot.

2 held: Tek Chand and his brother Baldev Singh of Tappi village were arrested on Sunday. In a complaint to the police, Amritpal had alleged that he was injured by Tek Chand, his uncle, on November 24 last when he had gone to irrigate his fields.

Hurt in accident: Sahib Ram of Talwara Khurd village was seriously injured in a road accident on Sunday when his cycle was hit by a jeep. A case has been registered.

Man, son held: Sahiram and his son Lal Chand of Nuhianwali village in the district were arrested on Sunday under Sections 306 and 34, IPC, on the charge of harassing and beating a widow who died at the local civil hospital on October 9. This was stated by Mr Kameshver Kumar Mishra, SP, here on Monday.

SONEPAT
Burn injuries:
Santoshi Devi, a young housewife, was reported to have sustained serious burn injuries when a gas cylinder burst while she was busy preparing meals in her house at Asarpur village, about 15 km from here, on Sunday. According to a report, the injured woman was rushed to the local civil hospital from where she was shifted to a Delhi hospital for further treatment.

Arrested: The Gohana police has arrested two persons of Ghillaur village for allegedly keeping some employees of the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam in illegal confinement when they detected a case of power theft during a raid conducted in a house.

Assaulted: Bijender Singh, a youth of Barona village, sustained multiple injuries when he was attacked with a sword by five persons of Chhinauli village on Sunday. The injured youth was immediately taken to a hospital. He was attacked when he was going in a three-wheeler from Kharkhauda to Bahadurgarh. A case of assault has been registered, but no one has been arrested so far.
