Pensioners' association: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Punjab Police Pensioners' Welfare Association: president — Mr Ajit Singh Kunar; vice-president - Mr Devinder Singh Panag; and general secretary — Mr Baldev Singh.

MALERKOTLA
Murdered: The Malerkotla police has arrested Chetu, a rickshaw puller belonging to West Bengal for allegedly murdering a woman Khatija. The accused has been sent to the judicial lock-up.

PATIALA
Camp: A three-day project of inter-regional camps and exchange of visits launched by the local National Theatre Arts Society concluded at S.D College in Ambala cantonment on Thursday. Mementoes were also presented to NTAS artistes, on the occasion.

Health camp: The Dedicated Brothers Group will organise the 131st free health care and awareness camp at Panchayati Dharmshala, Sidhuwal village, on Sunday in collaboration with the State Bank of Patiala, Bakshiwal branch, under the presidentship of Dr Rakesh Vermi, founder president of the group.

Diploma engineers: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Diploma Engineers Association, Punjab PWD Public Health Zone, Patiala: president — Mr Pritam Singh; senior vice-president — Mr Mehar Singh; general secretary — Mr Gurcharan Singh; and finance secretary — Mr Suresh Aggarwal.top

Autumn break: Carmel Convent, Sector 9, will reopen after autumn break on October 26 instead of October 25. The principal in a press release issued here said that since the school was the venue of a youth convention of students from various states, it would reopen once it concluded on October 25.

Peace rally: The Simla-Chandigarh Diocese Youth Commission will organise a peace rally on October 24 from the Sector 19 Catholic Church. In a press note, the organisation said a prayer service would be conducted on the occasion for peace and harmony in the country. Nearly 400 youths from Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and the Union Territory of Chandigarh were expected to participate in the rally.

FARIDABAD
Chain snatching: The police has arrested four persons in connection with chain snatching. Two of their accomplices are still at large. Mr Ranbir Sharma, said here on Thursday that the gang, which was active for the past six months admitted that they had snatched the chains of 16 women.

PANIPAT
Roof collapse: As many as 12 persons, including women, were injured in a roof collapse on the eve of Dasehra in a temple here on Tuesday. The injured have been admitted in the local Civil Hospital.

Adulterated food: The Chief Judicial Magistrate has convicted three persons on a charge of selling adulterated food stuff. According to the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Sandeep Garg, Khairati Lal of Samalkha town was sentenced to one year of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2000 was imposed on him. Similarly, Hukum Chand of Sodhapur and Hargovind of Bareat village were sentenced to six months of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1000 was imposed on them for selling adulterated milk.

Two sentenced: The Additional Sessions Judge, Mr V.K Aggarwal, has sentenced Ramesh and Ram Chander to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1000 on them. According to Mr Manoj Yadav, SP, Gordhan of Mahoti village was stabbed to death by the convicted on May 25, 1995.

SONEPAT
Dowry death: The Ganaur police has registered a case of dowry death against Vikram (husband), Harpal (father-in-law) and Darshana Devi (mother-in-law) of Poonam (20) of Bhigan village. She was allegedly set afire by them on Tuesday. She succumbed to her injuries in the Medical College Hospital at Rohtak on Thursday. According to the police, the victim, in her dying declaration, had alleged that she was set on fire for bringing insufficient dowry. No arrest has been made so far.

Road accidents: Bhup Singh was knocked down by a jeep on the G.T Road near Asawarpur village, 15 km from here, on Thursday. He is stated to be out of danger. A case has been registered against the driver, who has absconded. In another incident, Jai Narain of Saidpur village was hit by a truck on Thursday.

Medical camp: As many as 84 children were examined at a medical camp organised on the premises of Bal Gram, Rai, 16 km from here on Thursday.

Demand: The Haryana Power Generation Corporation Foremen Association has urged the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, to hold discussions with the power staff organisations before taking any decision on reverting the power restructuring programme of the Bansi Lal government. In a letter to the Chief Minister, the President of the association, Mr Bhoop Singh Arya, has pointed out that there were 12 organisations of power employees and so far the Chief Minister has held discussions with only two.top

BILASPUR
Appointed: Mr Jagdish Sharma has taken over as the Deputy Commissioner here. Earlier, he was holding a post of Director, Youth Services and Sports, Shimla.

Decision hailed: The convener of the local Nagar Vikas Sabha, Mr A.K Sharma, on Thursday welcomed the decision of the state government to shift the office of the HP Pollution Control Board to Bilaspur. He said such steps would help rehabilitate the oustees of the Bhakra Dam.

KANGRA
Decamp: Thieves struck at two places in the town on Thursday and decamped with goods worth several thousands of rupees. According to the district police chief they broke open the shutter of an electronic goods shop on Dharamsala road and stole television sets. In another incident four car tyres in Purana Kangra village were also stolen. The police said the night patrolling would be intensified to curb the incidents of the theft. No arrest has been made so far.

NURPUR
Office-bearers: The following have been elected office-bearers of the HP State Junior Telecom Officers' Association (Nurpur circle): president — Mr R.C Maudgil; vice-president — Mr V.S Kanwar; secretary — Mr Sudharshan Kumar; and treasurer — Mr K.L. Thakur.

SOLAN
Arrested: The Nalagarh police on Wednesday arrested Karam Chand of Nangal Dakhan and Gurmeet Singh and Budh Ram both residents of Bogher village near Jogon and seized 25 logs of khair wood from them. They had reportedly cut down 25 khair trees from Potla village under Jogon (Nalagarh) police post.

Inaugurated: The Chairman of the HP State Marketing Board, Mr Virendra Kashyap, inaugurated the fifth primary school games on the premises of Senior Secondary School, Dharampur, on Thursday. He said the government had allocated Rs 1 crore for the construction of classrooms in 36 primary schools of the district in the current financial year. A sum of Rs 3 lakh had also been allocated for the construction of an Ambedkar Hall at the school, he added. He also promised to get the approach road to the school metalled.top
