GURDASPUR
Lok Adalat:
As many as 80 out of 93 cases relating to workmen's compensation, the Wages Act and industrial disputes were settled through negotiations between the employers and the workmen in a Lok Adalat held here on Saturday. Mr A.K. Sharma, Presiding officer of the Labour Court here, presided. Rs 3,07,400 was paid to the workers as wages after settlement of their disputes in the Lok Adalat.

ROPAR
Challaned:
The police has challaned 2,521 persons during the recently observed traffic week to implement traffic rules as per the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. According to a press note, these persons were challaned between September 16 and 22 for violation of traffic rules.

Sangat darshan: A ‘sangat darshan’ programme was organised at Sandhuan village near Chamkaur Sahib on Friday. Mr K.S Sidhu, Deputy Commissioner, and Mr Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, SSP, participated in the programme and heard the grievances of residents of the area. The Deputy Commissioner ordered the officers concerned to redress the grievances at the earliest.top

Enrolment: The Rotract Club of Chandigarh organised its annual enrolment camp at the Rotract Vocational Training Centre on Saturday. Over 100 students approached the club.

Celebration: The State Bank of India, local head office, will celebrate 'Rajbhasha Maas' during September. Various programmes will be organised for its staff.

KHARAR
Demanded:
The villagers of Desu Majra, Jandpur and Fatehrulapur demanded on Friday that these villages get 24-hour electricity supply. They said despite meeting politicians and officers, nothing was done.

Camp: The Rotary Club will organise a subsidised hepatitis-B camp in Khalsa Senior Secondary School on Sunday. It will be held from 9 am to 2 pm.

Remanded: Mr Sanjay Agnihotri, Judicial Magistrate, on Friday remanded Sukhwinder Singh in police custody. He had been arrested for stealing a truck.

Visited:
Mr Dipinder Singh, Additional Chief Administrator of the Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority, and officials of the engineering cell visited Sector 70 on Friday and listened to the problems of the residents. He told the officials concerned to redress the grievances at the earliest.

Criticised: The Motor Market Association of Phase VII on Saturday criticised the behaviour of a representative of a local cable TV channel, who had, posing as a reporter of a local English daily, threatened the mechanics. He had told them to remove their equipment from outside the shops in the market.

Rally: A rally was held by employees of ESPL in front of the factory on Friday to protest against the indifferent attitude of the government in reviving the factory. They urged the government to appoint a full-time Managing Director in the company.top

AMBALA
NSS Day:
The NSS unit of the local S.D College, celebrated NSS Day by honouring Nand Kishore Sharma who donated blood 10 times during his three-years stay at the college. The Principal, Dr Desh Bandhu, asked students to work for the service of society.
Giants week: The Giants Group of Ambala Central celebrated Giants week which concluded here on Saturday. The group donated 5,000 bricks to the lepers' colony in the city.

KURUKSHETRA
Blood donation camp: To mark the Khalsa Tercentenary celebrations and the Kargil triumph, a blood donation camp was organised jointly by the university branch of State Bank of India and the university NSS Unit on the Kurukshetra University premises here on Saturday. A disabled student, Manjeet, from the University College of Education donated blood for the 22nd time.

PANIPAT
Patrol duty:
Due to apprehension of damage to public property on account of such incidents perpetrated by criminal elements in villages and colonies adjoining the city, the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Anurag Rastogi, has enforced "thikri pehra" orders to ensure the security and safety of public property and to avoid any untoward incidents in these areas. Under these orders, all able-bodied adult male inhabitants of about 24 villages and 40 colonies have been directed to perform patrol duty at night time. The order issued under Section 3 of the Punjab Village and Small Towns Patrol Act, 1918, shall remain in force for a period of six weeks.

Action Committee: Increasing incidents of looting of salary amounts on pay days by anti-social elements and the failure of the police to arrest the culprits has compelled teachers here to form an action committee to take up the issue with the police. The committee has demanded arrest of the criminals who had looted the salary amount from a clerk of Matloda School on September 1. It has warned the police that if the criminals were not arrested soon, the teachers will take out a protest rally at the District Headquarters.

Camp: A three-day personality development camp, organised jointly by the State Education Department and the local Brahmakumari Ashram, was inaugurated here on Friday by the Minister of State for Tourism and Education, Mr Om Prakash Jain. Over 100 youths from all over the state are participating in the camp.

YAMUNANAGAR
Memorandum:
The Haryana School Lecturers Association has given a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner for taking action against the Principal of Government Senior Secondary School, Damla. Mr Pawar Batas, District President of the association, in a press note issued here on Saturday has alleged that the Principal misbehaves with the staff of the school.
