CM’s challenge to
Cong Rohtak, June 23 Addressing a gathering organised by the brotherhood gotra of Suhag, Maan, Deshwal and Dalal Khaaps to felicitate the Chief Minister, he said he was prepared to convene another session of the Vidhan Sabha if the Congress wanted to bring in a no-confidence motion. The Congress, he said, had in the past moved no-confidence motion twice against his government but it failed to muster the strength required to get them admitted by the Speaker. He said Congress leaders were fighting among themselves and holding rallies to challenge one another. He said his government would try to provide necessary infrastructural facilities to village which would be on a par with those available to residents of other metropolitan cities. He said his government had introduced the “kanya-daan” yojana for the Dalits and the poor so that they could get their daughters married. Mr Chautala claimed that during the Bhajan Lal regime, Haryana had contributed only 20 lakh tonnes of wheat to the central pool. It had contributed over 65 lakh tonnes in the current season. The Chief Minister said sufficient power was being provided to people and there was no shortage of electricity. The state would generate 3000 MW of electricity in the coming few years, he claimed. He said following the implementation of the new industrial policy, at least 61 big and 2,500 small industries had been set up in the state. Over 750 new buses have been added to the existing fleet of the state transport. |

CM’s directive on
welfare schemes Chandigarh, June 23 Mr Chautala also told the officers that the financial assistance being given under the ‘Kanyadaan Scheme’ should be given to the beneficiary girl before her marriage. Referring to the proposal of the Rehabilitation Council of India to set up a Rehabilitation College in Haryana, Mr Chautala said land for the college would be allotted near New Delhi by the Haryana Government. He said Non-Government organisations should be given liberal assistance to undertake welfare projects to mitigate sufferings of the poor and downtrodden. He also advised that the backlog of vacancies reserved for the members belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes be cleared at the earliest. The Secretary, Social Justice and Empowerment Mr Bhagwati Prasad, informed the Chief
Minister that at present 9.55 lakh people were being benefited by the Old Age Pension Scheme. Referring to the ‘vridh ashram grah’ being set-up in the state, he said 39 such grahs had already been completed with 11 in Rewari district alone. Market fee worth lakhs
outstanding Sonepat, June 23 Sources said market fee worth lakhs of rupees had not been recovered from some arhtiyas who were alleged to have connived with some officials of the market committee for getting their files shelved. Nearly Rs 60,000 has been outstanding against a wholesale arhtiya. The non-recovery of the fee has led to the shortage of funds for various development purposes. The market committee is also suffering a revenue
loss. It is reported that several truckloads of vegetables and fruits are being imported daily by some traders and sold without being entered in registers. Some officials of the market committee are allegedly receiving huge sums regularly from them. These officials show less arrivals and low sale of vegetables and fruits in the
record. It is alleged that the arhtiyas never present their account books and the
officials feel helpless to verify the complaints against them. Meanwhile, members of the Retailers Association and representatives of various farmers’ organisations have sent a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, and the Chairman of the Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board demanding a probe into the irregularities and action against the erring arhtiyas and officials. |

Withdraw order on NRI seats: JD
(U) Faridabad, June 23 In a statement here today, the state party unit chief, Mr Ved Prakash Vidrohi, described the move as shortsighted and unjust. He said if the government wanted to raise the income of the college, it could have increased the seats. He said while the medical college and hospital at Rohtak, which was the only medical institution owned by the state government in Haryana, had been upgraded to the postgraduate level, the total number of seats for medical courses had been static for the past several years. He claimed that reserving 17 seats for the NRI category from the available seats would mean a direct loss to the local candidates as eight, six and three seats (out of the total 17) had been taken from the general, backward class and Scheduled Caste categories, respectively. He demanded an immediate withdrawal of the order. He also criticised the policy of the Chautala government on education. Commenting upon the decision to take away plus one and plus two classes from private-aided colleges, he said it would affect the growth of the educational infrastructure. Calling it an arbitrary decision, he said the private colleges should have been taken into confidence. Mr Vidrohi also condemned the decision to withdraw postgraduate courses from various colleges. |

Army nabs young impostors Ambala, June 23 The youths were nabbed by Army men earlier this week when they approached a local Army unit for giving demonstration of acupressure equipment. The duo claimed that they were from a Delhi-based firm and sold acupressure equipment. The Army men here became suspicious when the duo expressed familiarity with different cantonments located in North India. The duo, Nadeem and Ajay, were then nabbed by the Army personnel. Sources said that on questioning, the duo said that they had already visited the cantonments in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Bareilly, Dehra Dun and Raiwali and they were now planning to sell their ware at Ambala cantonment and then move on Ferozepore cantonment. The duo stated that they were from a Delhi-based firm which specialised in acupressure and magnetic therapy equipment. Preliminary investigations had revealed that the address cited by them of the firm had turned out to be a residential address. Also, it had come to light that at least there cousins of Nadeem were based in Faisalabad in Pakistan. The seizure of a number of telephone numbers of officers, including senior Army officers based in different cantonments, has raised many eyebrows in the Army. The duo was also reportedly carrying eight recommendation letters of Army officers who had apparently benefited from the acupressure therapy. The Army also found that the prices of the acupressure equipment being sold by the two persons were several times higher than the actual prices. The Delhi Police is also believed to be making inquiries into the antecedents of the two individuals. The two youths were later handed over to the police by the Army. A police official said that the duo would approach the commanding officer of an Army unit and explain the benefits of the acupressure therapy. “They would even provide a sample for use so that the officer would know how beneficial it was. The duo would then seek permission for a demonstration and hope to sell the equipment,” he said. The Superintendent of Police, Mr Sandeep
Khirwar, said that inquiries were being made into the case.
