Begum Khalida Zia

KHALIDA ZIA who recently won the elections in Bangladesh to become the
Prime Minister for the second time was in Delhi some time back on a
state visit. She is wife of late President General Zia-ur Rehman who was
assassinated. Begum Zia had a busy schedule during her stay in Delhi. It
was during one of her public engagements that Itook a chance and went to
meet her. As usual, I had to deal with the security and the protocol.
However, an official who was accompanying her helped me to take with
her. He was able to communicate with her in her language — Bengali —
— my desire to meet her and to procure her autograph on the sketch
Ihad drawn of her.She was happy to see her picture along with the one I
had drawn of her husband during his visit to Delhi and on which I had
his signature.
There was no hesitation on her part and
she gladly affixed her signature and carried a similar sketch with her.
