Admn ill-equipped to check floods

In an exposure of the administration's preparation to handle floods, it has come to light that 57 of the 60 generators, earmarked for pumping out flood water or providing water supply to inundated areas, are lying out of order for the past several months.

The civic body has acted on news reports and cancelled the tenders for contracts worth over Rs 5 crore that had been held back by the MC for almost a month-and-a-half in view of the election code of conduct and, then, opened on May 24 in violation of norms.

Mayor, deputies to be chosen on June 19

The city Mayor will be elected on June 19 in the presence of the Divisional Commissioner of Patiala at a special meeting. The Senior Deputy Mayor and the Deputy Mayor will also be chosen then.

Case registered after 14 months

More than 14 months after a Ludhiana-based woman was allegedly kidnapped and raped twice by two men with the help of a woman near Jarhtoli village, the Dehlon police has booked three persons in the case and arrested all of them.

Daylight robbery in Krishna Nagar

The Civil Lines police has registered a case under Section 392 of the IPC in connection with an armed robbery in Krishna Nagar yesterday afternoon. Mr Gagan Preet Singh, a resident of the colony, had complained to the police yesterday that Sonu, accompanied by two of his cronies, who were not known to him, came to his house at about 2 pm and snatched Rs 4,000, two gold bracelets and a pair of silver anklets at pistol point before escaping.

Married woman raped

The Dehlon police on the complaint of a married woman of Basant Nagar Street, Lohara, registered a case under Sections 376, 506 and 120-B, IPC, that she was raped allegedly by Baljinder Singh of Dehlon and Kuldip Singh, alias Neela, of Jadtoli.

DMCH employees go on strike

Employees of the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital today went on a strike in response to a call given by the employees’ union. The strike call was given following the breakdown of talks between the union leaders and the management over the shifting of the Gastroenterology Ward.

A fine bowling performance (5 for 23) by Karan steered SAN Jain Senior Secondary School to their first victory by 22 runs against Green Land Senior Secondary School in the eighth league match of the Sixth Chaman Lal Malhotra Cricket Cup Tournament for boys U-15 being organised by the Ludhiana District Cricket Association in the Arya College for Boys ground here today.
