Principals’ appointment: DU’s move flayed

The University of Delhi is considering an amendment to the Ordinance regarding the constitution of selection committees for the appointment of principals of affiliated colleges. However, the move has come in for criticism from certain quarters. The latest to join the Opposition bandwagon is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The selection committee comprises three members of the managing committee and three nominees of the vice-chancellor of University of Delhi. The amendment proposes to expand the composition by one that will be nominated by the Academic Council. The Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Prof Jagdish Mukhi, on Saturday said the University of Delhi was indulging in administrative manipulation by misrepresenting the facts. “It is astonishing,” he said, “that the vice-chancellor intends to bring down the nominees of governing body from five members to three members and increase the representation of its nominees from three to four.”
