The Khanna Municipal Council has decided to reduce Rs 70.40 lakh in the reserved price of octroi for 2002-2003 and to abolish six posts of inspector and some other employees as the report of the special meeting held on September 2 was circulated among the council members here today.
According to the report, 17 out of 26 members were present at the meeting and they decided to auction octroi posts at the reserved price of Rs 803.25 lakh. The auction was scheduled for October 21, 2001, and on November 8, 2001, at the Zila Parishad office but no one came for bidding.
On July 26, 2002, the council again passed a resolution to allot octroi collection contract to a private party. In the wake of this resolution, the authorities fixed the reserved price at Rs 850.24 lakh and auction was scheduled for August 16. Seven bidders were present, but no one came forward to bid. The councillors decided to reduce the reserved price at Rs 780 lakh.
