Professors advocate merger with
depts
Chandigarh, April 29
Will Panjab University merge the
languages chairs with the teaching departments concerned? The answer is
no, at least for the moment. However, the issue is not dead; it may be
raised in the Senate. There are strong reasons to seek the merger, one
of which is that the coveted chairs are making a “nondescript”
contribution to academics and wasting important manpower and already
scarce funds on maintaining “non-contributing staff”.

schools want to be part of SIE workshops

Staff of private schools of the
city want to attend workshops and orientation programmes conducted by
the State Institute of Education, the coordinating body between the
schools and the NCERT. About 100 private schools, catering to more than
a lakh students, being debarred from attending such programmes.

Allowing a petition filed by Star
India Private Limited, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today quashed a
complaint filed by a Panchkula-based cable operator Krishna
Communications, alleging cheating and forgery.
