Six-year-old
kidnapped,
murdered Ambala, September 16 Six-year-old Saurabh, a resident of Regiment Bazar, had gone missing at about 4 pm on September 12. He had gone out to play and he did not return home. Despite frantic efforts by the family members, Saurabh could not be found. Next day family received a phone call from a man saying that the boy was in his custody. The caller said he would again give a call at 9 pm. But the second call did not come. On September 14, the family received a call stating that he wanted a ransom for his safe release. The caller did not give any further details. The family members then installed ID caller on their phone. Today, the family members again received a letter reiterating the ransom demand. At about 3.45 p.m., the family members received a call in which the kidnapper again demanded the ransom amount. The call was traced from a nearby STD PCO booth. The booth employee informed the family members that she will be able to identify the person who made the call. A neighbour said some of the local youth had seen, a next door neighbour Kunal, writing a letter. Since, the family had received a ransom note, they decided to check out Kunal. Kunal had all along been with the family of Saurabh. “He was taken to the STD booth where the employee identified Kunal as the person who had made the ransom calls,” he said. He said the body of Saurabh, who was a student of Arya Samaj school, was found stuffed in a sack which had been dumped in a dilapidated building on the Mall Road. The building is near Sai Enterprises. A strong odour was coming from the area where the sack had been thrown. The weeds acted as a foliage and it was not possible to know that the child had been killed. The police is not ruling out the possibility of the child being done to death even when the kidnapper was seeking a ransom amount. The child’s father, Chaman Lal, who works in the telephone exchange, said they had received three phone calls from the kidnapper. “I am devastated. My child is dead. Saurabh was my youngest son,” he said. In another incident, a farm labourer in Adhoi village of Barara was murdered this evening. The incident took place at about 4 pm. Sukhdev Singh, alias Bheema, was working in the fields when he was allegedly accosted by four persons. He was assaulted near the tubewell. Later, one of the assailants informed Sukhdev’s wife about the incident. The police rushed to the spot on learning about the incident. The exact cause of death will be known after post-mortem examination. |

The UTS counters were centrally inaugurated barely a month back on August 15 by the Union Railway Minister, Mr Nitish Kumar. At about 4 pm yesterday, the computer system began to give trouble. The Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Ambala Division, Mr Dayal
Dogra, said computers at the UTS counters had been set right this morning. ‘‘There was some failure in the computer which has been corrected.
