Gaurav Gill races to title New Delhi, March 1 In the Formula Maruti single-seater event, Gaurav Gill set up a good lead that he kept widening till the finish line. Gill posted an overall time of 25:14.891 with his best lap being 01:39.699. Amrittrajit Ghosh traded places with Jigar Muni but the latter went into the pits due to mechanical problems. The battle for the third place was where the action was, with Rayomand Bannajee and defending champion Gaurav Dalal trading places several times. Eventually, on the ninth lap, Bannajee took the third spot and held it all the way to the finish. Novice Armaan Ebrahim drove a splendid race and finished fifth. J D Madan won the Saloon Class with a total time of 25:37.840 with Radha Selvaraj and Arun Vasu accounting for the second and third position. In the Formula LGB Class (nine laps), Armaan Ebrahim clocked a total time of 07.57.841. Rayomand Bannajee and Ameya Walavalkar finished second and third. |

Kapil Dev wins golf title New Delhi, March 1 The invitational tournament received tremendous response as 108 players teed-off at the 18-hole course. The participants were divided into three handicap divisions to ensure that an equal number of players were there in each handicap category. The handicaps were calculated on the basis of performance on 12 hidden holes and adjusted against the player’s total score. Manoj Dutt and Sumant Chaddha finished first and second in Division C, Harinder Sikka and R. K. Pachnanda took the first and second spot in that order in Division B while Ashwani Khanna and Vinay Goel took the top place and runner-up slot respectively in Division A. |
Lt-Gen Kalra takes over as DGMS Army New Delhi, March 1 He is the Medical Adviser to UPSC and Inspector, Medical Council of India, and life member of Association of Physicians of India and API, Delhi Chapter. He also held the post of Chairman, Board of studies, University of Pune from 1995-2000. He has been Fellow of Indian College of Physicians since 1996 and member of National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) since 2002. He was Honorary Surgeon of Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Naval Staff (1998-2000). Prior to assuming the post of DGMS (Army), he commanded the prestigious Army Medical Corps Centre and School, Lucknow, where training in Military Medicine is imparted to medical officers, dental surgeons, nurses and other para medical staff. He has been awarded the Chief of the Army Staff Commendation Card in August 1994 and has the rare distinction of being awarded “Ati Vishsisht Seva Medal” twice (26 January 2001 and 26 January 2003) by the President of India. |
1,147 vehicles challaned Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad police have booked 1,147 vehicles for not having fastened the seat belts during fortnight ago. A fine of over Rs 1 lakh has been recovered in this connection. The police had launched a campaign against drivers and passengers for not fastening their seat belts. Action was taken against 327 drivers for violating motor ordinance. The registration documents of 23 tractors were seized for misusing their vehicles.
