Ban on corporal punishment sought
Chandigarh, September 7
Demanding a ban on corporal punishment, participants at a conference on “Teacher-student relationship and human rights” today advocated milder forms of punishment to students.
A resolution passed at the conference, while advocating other forms of admonishments which do not harm students, urged the authorities concerned to frame policies aimed at maintaining the dignity of the teaching community.

Mystery shrouds death of old man
Panchkula, September 7
Mystery shrouds the death of 61-year-old resident of a labour colony, who died at General Hospital here late last night.
The victim, Panchi Ram, was rushed to the hospital late last night after a bout of vomiting and severe abdominal pain. He was administered treatment at the hospital, but later died.
