Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Mandi Gobindgarh, is the first school in the state to have introduced floorball. A training camp of the game was inaugurated by Mr J.P.S. Jolly, Managing Director of the school committee who himself is a sports person, today.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Jolly pointed out that their school was first in the state and the seventh school in the country to have organised such a camp. The aim of the camp was to promote floorball in the region.

Mr Jarco, coach from Finland, has been invited to impart training to students. Floorball is played on a cemented floor having 40 x 20 yard dimensions. The number of players on each side varies from 6 to 8, besides goal keepers on both sides. The game is played with hockey-like sticks and a ball weighing 27 grams.

Ms Arvind Sakar Sudha, Principal of the school, said that the game was one of the safest games with little danger of injury to players. The school aimed not only to provide formal education to children but also to develop a sportsman spirit among them. An exhibition match would be organised at the concluding ceremony of the camp on Saturday. A formal invitation had been extended to the Chandigarh floor ball Association for an exhibition match, she added.
