PGI to host conference for trauma surgeons

Chandigarh, January 4
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the PGI here is organising a two-day annual conference of the Indian Chapter of Alumni Association on January 8 and 9.

About 100 orthopaedic trauma surgeons from across the country will be discussing various ways of the management of fracture fixation failures during the conference. 



Ajay spins Satluj Centre to victory

Five-wicket haul by left-arm spinner Ajay Bhardwaj (5 for 22) enabled the Satluj Coaching Centre to beat Sagar Sports XI by four wickets to enter the semi-final of the second Satluj Challenger League Cricket Tournament here today.

Sagar Sports XI scored 153 runs in 20 overs. Manu Bedi (58) and Surinder Shanty (45) were the top scorers. Left-spinner Ajay Bhardwaj claimed five wickets. Satluj Coaching Centre achieved the target in 19.4 overs.

Brief scores: Sagar Sports XI: 153 runs in 20 overs (Manu Bedi 58, Surinder Shanty 45, Ajay Bhardwaj 5 for 22, Sukhwinder Singh 3 for 25). Satluj Coaching Centre : 157 for 6 in 19.4 overs (Joraver Singh 30 n.o., Vipul Chadha 25, Karan Malik 32, S.Gill 32, Anil Sharma 2 for 31, Sanjay Kumar 2 for 37).

In an other match: New Model School XI beat St Xavier XI by 90 runs.

Brief scores: New Model School XI 245 for 3 in 25 overs (Amarpreet 127, Gurmeet Sodhi 32, Sandeep 35), St Xavier XI: 155 all out in 19 overs (Akshay 22, Sarad 26, Sandeep 4 for 19, Gurmeet Sodhi 2 for 16, Amanpreet Singh 2 for 14).

Death mourned

A meeting of the Chandigarh Coaches Welfare Association was held here today. A one-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to hockey legend Balkrishan Singh. It was decided to donate one day’s salary of the victims of the tsunami disaster.

Football trials

The Chandigarh Football Association will conduct trials to select 25 probables for a coaching camp for the forthcoming Junior Football Championship (Boys) for the Dr B.C. Roy Trophy, which will be held at Basti (UP) from January 27. The trials will be held at Football Stadium, Sector 17, on January 6.

Ball badminton

Sonika from St Joseph’s Coaching Centre, Sector 44, and Gurinder Singh from DAV College, Sector 10, will lead the Chandigarh Women and Men ball badminton teams in the 50th Golden Jubilee Ball Badminton Senior National Championship. It is scheduled to be held in Secundrabad (Andhra Pradesh) from January 8 to 12. The coaching camp was held at the Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, from December 24 to January 4.
