BOOKED: Des Raj, his two sons, Jiwan Kumar and Santosh, and Seetal, have been booked for allegedly murdering Girdhari Lal, a resident of Gali Samadhawali, Chowk Moni. A case under Section 302, IPC, has been registered here on a complaint of Sandip Kumar, son of the deceased.

TRANSMISSION LINE: Bibi Jagir Kaur, SGPC, President, has requested the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, to get changed the route of the high-tension electric transmission line of the Bhakhra-Beas Management Board passing through Gurdwara Nada Sahib, Panchkula.

SCHEMES: In order to ensure all-round development of six blocks of the district situated close to the Indo-Pakistan border, the District Planning and Development Board has mooted various schemes to the tune of Rs 555.32 lakh which have been sent to the state government for approval. This was stated by Mr Mohinder Singh Kaypee, Chairman, District Planning and Development Board, while presiding over a meeting of officials from the district administration, MLAs, MPs and other members of the board here on Monday.

ARRESTED: The Mahilpur police has arrested Yudhvir Singh, son of Chambel Singh of Salempur, under Section 15, 61, 85 of the NDPS Act and seized 7.5 kg of poppy husk from him. The Garhshankar police also arrested Kirpal Chand of Denowal Khurd under the same sections and seized 10 kg of poppy husk from him.

IMMOLATION BID: Following a quarrel with her husband, 40-year-old Joginder Kaur, a resident of Sidhwan village, tried to immolate herself. She was taken to hospital in Maqsudan from where she was referred to the Civil Hospital, Jalandhar.

ELECTED: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Old Students Association of Nehru Memorial Government College : president- Mr Rampal Dhaipai; senior vice-president- Mr Simranjit Singh; vice-presidents- Mr Gurtej Singh and Mr Harinder Singh; secretary- Prof Ashru Singh; joint secretary- Mr Jatinder Angra; finance secretary- Mr Gurdeep Singh.

MOBILISATION: The Democratic Youth Federation of India will press the Centre for inducting the right to work into fundamental rights and formulate a comprehensive youth and sports policy. This was stated by Mr Rakesh Nayyar, vice-president of the state unit of the DYFI, while addressing a delegate conference of the local unit here on Monday after inaugurating the conference.

INAUGURATED: Mr Parkash Singh, Parliamentary Secretary (Cooperation), inaugurated the construction work at Government Senior Secondary School here on Monday.

CAMP: A blood donation camp was organised by the Blood Bank of the Guru Nanak Mission Hospital, Dhahan Kaleran, about 20 km from here on Monday. Dr Budh Singh Dhahan, founder-president, and Mr Bhagwant Singh Dhahan, Trustee, Guru Nanak Mission Medical and Educational Trust, Dhahan Kaleran, inaugurated the camp where 35 units of blood were collected.

ARRESTED: The police has arrested Ram Gopal, a resident of Dhaki area, here for allegedly forcing his wife to commit suicide and destroying evidence under Section 306-201 of the IPC. Rakesh Sharma, a resident of Amritsar and brother of the victim, Sangita, alleged that his sister was married to the accused in 1991. They had two male children. The accused, who runs a grocery shop, had been forcing the victim to give him Rs 50,000 deposited with a private party.

CRUSHED: A shoe merchant of Goraya, Roop Lal, was crushed to death by a school bus near Goraya police station on the national highway on Monday. The deceased was going to his shop when the bus hit him. He died on the spot. The Goraya police has arrested the driver and impounded the vehicle.

Couple killed: A couple of nearby Bilga village in Phillaur subdivision was killed in a road accident near Haridwar on Monday night. According to reports received here on Tuesday morning, Sardul Duggal and his wife were going to Haridwar when their Maruti car was hit by a vehicle. Both husband and wife died on the spot.



SENT BACK: The local police on Monday sent back a marriage party after the ceremony as it was found that the girl was underage. The party had come from Kalanaur with the bridegroom, Mangtu (25). The girl, Manju, was reported to be 15.

THEFT: As many as 395 LPG cylinders and a dozen chullahs worth about Rs 8.29 lakh were stolen from the godown of an LPG dealer at Kharkhauda town, 19 km from here, on Monday night. The dealer, Mr Teja Singh, lodged a complaint with the police in this connection.

KILLED: Two youths of Sonepat were killed in a road accident at Muzaffarnagar (UP) on Monday evening. The victims were identified as Rajesh and Rishipal and they were travelling on a motor cycle and coming towards Shamli town on their way back to Sonepat. The motor cycle was hit by a bus resulting in their death.

SUICIDE: An unidentified woman, along with her two children, reportedly jumped before a Delhi-bound passenger train near Hindu Girls College here on Tuesday. The Government Railway Police has sent the body of the woman for a post-mortem examination. The children were referred to the PGIMS, Rohtak, for further treatment.
