Complaint redressed
: The District Consumer Forum, Hoshiarpur, has accepted the complaint of Mr Karnail Singh ,resident of Tanda ,and ordered the National Insurance Company to pay a sum of Rs 4,93,750 along with Rs5,000 as compensation within a period of two months to the complainant.

Man throws acid on wife
: A resident of Basti Sheikh allegedly tried to pour acid down his wife’s throat burning her mouth here on Wednesday. Praveen, a mother of five, worked as labourer. Her husband, Narinder, a drunkard, allegedly harassed her for money. After an altercation, the accused allegedly threw acid on her mouth in front of the children.

College building illegal
: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued orders to the competent authority to remove the encroachment in the forest area by the management of IITT Engineering College, Pojewal. The court had declared the building of the IITT Engineering College, Pojewal( Nawanshahr) an unauthorized construction in the forest area in violation of the Section 4 & 5 of the Forest Act,the Deputy Commissioner said.

Man run over by train
: An 85-year-old man was run over by the Amritsar-Sealdah train near Mauli railway crossing here Wednesday morning. Dhanna Ram of Hadiabad locality was crossing the railway tracks at Mauli village when the mishap occurred. The body was handed over to family members after postmortem.

Couple attacked: Four masked miscreants attacked an elderly couple and decamped with Rs 60,000 in cash from their house at nearby Uchcha Pind village on the intervening night of May 16 and May 17. The miscreants entered the house of Amar Singh (70) and attacked his wife, Rachhpal Kaur (66), and then Amar Singh with sharp-edged weapons inflicting serious injuries. The victims’ daughter-in-law and grandchildren were asleep.

Accused held
: The Jalandhar police has arrested Gangeshwer of village Massa in Bihar and brought him to Goraya.He is an accused in the murder of Bindeshwar and Raj Kumar Paswan at village Dhaleta near Goray on May 5.




Call to save energy
: The Ambala Division Commissioner, Dr Mahaveer Singh, gave a call to save energy in view of the grave power crisis in the country. He was speaking as chief guest at a function organised by District Rural Development Agency here on Tuesday. Dr Singh said that it was the duty of every citizen to avoid wasteful consumption of energy and to create awakening among the masses about the use of non conventional sources of energy which were cheaper and eco friendly. 

Cut-fruit sale on despite ban
: Even though the district administration has ordered a complete ban on sale of cut fruit and unhygienic juices and ice-creams, the sale of such items is going on in the district. Besides the markets of the twin townships of Jagadhri and Yamunanagar, such items are also being sold near the mini secretariat in Jagadhri.
