Cop nabbed with smack: The Chheharta police has nabbed Constable Inderjit Singh for allegedly possessing 90 gm smack here late Friday evening. He was nabbed during a naka. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered.Tourist killed in road mishap: Gopal Nandi, a West Bengal resident was killed in a road mishap near the Beas falling under the Majitha police district here on Saturday. He was run over by an unidentified speeding Sumo vehicle. According to information, he was coming to Amritsar for visiting the Golden Temple and the Wagah border. A case under Section 304, IPC, has been registered.

Man kills wife of brother, self: A resident of Chahal village 4 km from here on the Batala – Jalandhar road, allegedly murdered his brother’s wife with a sword and afterwards committed suicide by consuming poison. The cause of the episode is stated to be quarrel between the two over property.

2.5 kg poppy husk seized: Mr L.K. Yadav, SSP, Batala police district, told the mediapersons here on Friday that a police party arrested Manjeet Singh along with 2.5 kg of poppy husk. A case has been registered under Section 15-61-85, NDPS Act, against Manjeet Singh.

Disproportionate property case: Mr Ram
Asra, DSP, Vigilance, arrested Tirath Singh, Junior Engineer of Kandi Watershed Division (Irrigation Department), under Section 13 (1) read with Sections 13, 2 and 88 of the Prevention of Corruption Act on Friday. He was produced in the court of Mr Kishore Kumar, Chief Judicial Magistrate, who granted his one-day remand to the Vigilance Department. During investigation, it was found that the Junior Engineer had amassed disproportionate property of Rs 14.75 lakh which was beyond his known sources of income.
Travel agents booked: On the complaint of Gurbax Singh and Gurnam Singh, both of Baddi Miani (Tanda), the police has registered a case under Section 420 of the IPC against the travel agents S.K. Rana of Jalandhar and Dalip Singh of Pindi Kher (Tanda). Both alleged that the agents took Rs 2 lakh from them for sending them abroad. But they neither sent them abroad nor returned their money.
