Farmers from around 24 villages, falling under Badali feeder of the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB), jammed the NH 21 demanding an uninterrupted power supply to their villages.

At 1 pm, the farmers first staged a dharna outside the PSEB office near bus stand and then jammed traffic on the NH 21 for around 45 minutes.

They also submitted their memorandum to SDO Harbans Singh. Leaders of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) accompanied the farmers in their stir.

Villagers also made specific complaint against a junior engineer of the PSEB alleging him of misconduct and demanded his transfer. They have threatened to intensify the stir, if their demands are not met within a week.

Meanwhile, XEN P.S. Bains said the board did not get adequate supply and hence was not able to transmit the same to masses.

Kang wins LG Cup
Our Golf Correspondent

Chandigarh, December 18
Harjinder Singh Kang, a seasoned golfer from Chandigarh, overcame a spirited teenaged challenge from Kapurthala's Ashbeer Saini to clinch the LG RCGC Cup, his first win in the LG Amateur Tour, at Royal Calcutta Golf Club in Kolkata today.

Fifteen-year-old Ashbeer, who had maintained a neck to neck fight in the first three rounds crumbled under pressure on the final day conceding two triple bogeys to go down before the experienced Kang by four strokes.

Pawan Kumar finished in third place along with Rahul Bajaj at five over par with a total score of 293, while Manav Das from Ambala finished three strokes further back at 296.

Both Rahul Bajaj and Manav Das have won once this year on the LG Amateur Tour. Gagan Verma, the leader on the LG Order of Merit list, finished 15th on the leader board. He had a terrible second round and never got back into contention.

Young Ashbeer started in style racing to a five stroke lead over Kang after four holes. But this was as far as he could go. He dropped three shots conceding a triple bogey on the par-four fifth hole.

He repeated this triple bogey on the 10th as his game fell apart. He continued to drift as Kang took over in the back nine and raced to four stroke win.

Kang did not get off to the best of starts but kept it together after a horrid front nine and finished with a three over 75 for a tournament total of one under par.

Ashbeer carded a 79, his worst round over the duration of the tournament and finished with a four day total of three over par, 291.

Kang said, "I had a terrible front nine and got unlucky in a couple of places but managed to hold on after that."

This was his second win on the LG Amateur Tour after registering his maiden win on the tour last year when he won the LG Samarvir Sahi Amateur.

Kang was all praise for Ashbeer Saini. He said, "He is a very good player but lacks experience right now. I am sure he will go on to win many titles in the future."

The next tournament on the LG Amateur Tour is the prestigious LG Goodricke Eastern India Amateur which will commence at Royal Calcutta Golf Club on Friday. While Kang would be hoping to continue his good form, Ashbeer gets a chance to redeem himself and he would be hoping to put on a good show once again.

Scores: 287 H.S. Kang (71-71-70-75); 291 Ashbeer Saini (69-73-70-79); 293 Rahul Bajaj (75-73-75-69), Pawan Kumar (78-70-71-74); 296 Manav Das (74-78-74-70), Sanjeev Mehra (73-73-74-76); 297 Moin Malak (78-75-72-72), Akshay Butta (76-74-75-72), Raja Sardar (73-71-73-80); 298 Arshdeep Tiwana (76-72-73-77).
