Body found
: Activists of local Sahara Jan Sewa found a body from near a drain near Nagla village falling under Talwandi police station. Some parts of the body were devoured by dogs. Meanwhile, the activists on Saturday shifted a man in a serious condition to local Civil Hospital from the Bathinda-Goniana road (near three cinemas) here. He died after battling for life for about three hours. The deceased was identified as Jasbir Singh of Jalal village.

50 jerseys distributed: The Bathinda Vikas Manch distributed 50 jerseys among the students at Phus Mandi village.

TB awareness camp: Local Dost Welfare Society with the assistance of district health authorities organised a TB awareness camp here on Sunday. At this camp, 173 persons were examined while 13 suspected TB cases were referred to local Civil Hospital.

: The following have been elected office-bearers of the District Revenue Officers Association unanimously: President - Bhupinderjit Singh; vice-president - Darbara Singh Randhawa; general secretary - Rakesh Pal Minhas; joint secretary - Kulwant Singh Sidhu; and cashier - Prem Chand. 

Sweaters distributed
: Hundred sweaters were distributed among needy students of Government Elementary Boys School, Garha, by the volunteers of the Rotary Club here on Sunday. Chairman of the Village Education Development Committee Lakhwinder Singh thanked the Rotarians. 

Woman dies
: A middle-aged woman, Harminder Kaur, died due to burn injuries here on Sunday. She had sustained 80 per cent burns as her clothes caught fire while working in the kitchen on a stove at Panchat village in the morning. She died in the Phagwara Hospital.

Villager killed: A villager, Rajinder Ram (28), was killed in a road mishap in here on Thursday night. The body of Rajinder Ram was sent to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination, the police said.

Energy conservation award
: Haryana has bagged the national award for promotion of energy conservation during 2008-09. Stating this on Saturday, director, Haryana Department of Renewable Energy, Sumita Misra said every year the Government of India select states to present national awards for their contribution to the promotion of energy conservation. She said Haryana had been adjudged for the national award by the Union Ministry of Power. The award would be presented at a national-level function to be held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on December 14.

2 get life term for dowry death
: Additional District and Sessions Judge AK Shori here has sentenced Saroj’s mother-in-law Leelawati and sister-in-law Sunita to life imprisonment holding them guilty of causing her death. A fine of Rs 5,000 each was also imposed on them. According to the prosecution, Saroj, who received severe burn injuries, was admitted to the PGI, Rohtak, on June 23, 2008. Before succumbing to her burn injuries, Saroj gave a statement to the Judicial Magistrate, in which she alleged that her in-laws used to torture her for more dowry and on June 23, 2008, her mother-in-law and sister-in-law following an altercation set her afire.

Former minister dead: Nar Singh Dhanda (64), a former Haryana minister, died here on Sunday. His cremation will take place at his native village, Sandal Kheri, at 11 am on Monday. Dhanda was elected MLA for the first time in 1982 from the Pai assembly constituency of the district. He was again elected MLA in 1987 and remained a minister in the Devi Lal government and held the portfolios of food and civil supply, forests and social welfare. He was reportedly suffering from cancer.

Police station building
: Director General of Police RS Dalal will inaugurate the 33rd newly constructed modern police station building of the Haryana police in Pehowa, 25 km from here, on Monday. A Haryana police spokesperson said the Haryana Police Housing Corporation, Panchkula, had constructed its new building at a cost of Rs 64 lakh. The total covered area of this modern police station was 8,600 sq feet.

Youth killed in mishap
: Bhagat Singh (28), a resident of Mau village, near Dharuhera, was killed on the spot when his tractor-trolley was hit by a tractor-trailer on NH-8 at Saban Chowk, 16 km from here, on Saturday. The mishap occurred when he was crossing the highway at the above chowk to go to a brick-kiln. 

Blankets distributed
: The Samaj Seva Samiti distributed 500 blankets, 500 pullovers, 10 sewing machines, two hearing aids, wheel chairs and tricycles to needy persons at a function here on Sunday. BJP MLA Kavita Jain was the chief guest on the occasion. Patron of the samiti and BJP’s state media in charge Rajiv Jain assured that the samiti would continue to help the needy.

Punjabi Sammelan: The chief patron of the All-India Panchnad Samarak Samiti, Swamy Dharam Dev, on Saturday called upon the Punjabi community to strengthen their unity for setting up a Panchnad Samarak to keep the memory of all those Punjabis who sacrificed their lives for unity and freedom of the country. Addressing a Punjabi Sammelan here organised by the Punjabi Sewa Samiti, he said the samarak would inspire the youth towards cultural heritage. 




Patwari held
: A team of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau caught one patwari Pyar Singh at Patwar Khana Namhole near here allegedly red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 from one villager Ramesh Chand. He has been arrested. 

Workers assaulted: In an incident of assaulting and intimidating 39 labourers working under the “employment guarantee scheme” of the government near Sagloga village in Churah tehsil of Chamba district on Thursday, the police has booked five persons under different sections of the IPC. Chamba SP Madhu Sudan said a case of rioting, causing hurt and criminal intimidation had been registered against the accused at the Tissa police station.

Promoted: The government on Friday promoted 1984 batch IPS officer Somesh Goyal to the rank of Additional Director General Police (ADGP). Goyal, who is currently posted as managing director of the HRTC was an IG-rank officer.

Mock test: A private training institute BM-SAP will conduct a mock IIT-JEE test on December 20. The test was being organised in 10 different centres for the students of classes IX- XII in Himachal, Punjab and Haryana. In the hill state, the test would be held at Una, Hamirpur, Palampur and Shimla. 



l: ONGC, Udham Singh Nagar win in separate categories The ONGC defeated Haridwar in the final of the Men’s State Volleyball Championship underway at Doiwala here today.
ONGC won the first set by 25-16 and the second set by 25-18 thumping the Haridwar side.
