Sangeet Utsav:
Sangeet Utsav 2010, dedicated to Ustad Laxman Singh Seen, Punjab Gharana (tabla), Sangeet Sabha, Pathankot, will organise its two-day musical function on April 3 and 4 here at the Luxmi Palace. Artists and vocalists including Kala Ram Nath, violinist from Mumbai, will present perform.



MC okays works worth over Rs 1 cr:
The municipal corporation has approved agenda items worth more than Rs 1 crore, including widening and carpeting of V-6 roads in Sector 31-A, recarpeting of V-6 roads in Sector 31-B and 31-C, recarpeting of internal roads of old Indira colony at Mani Majra, laying of pavement blocks in various sectors and construction of a ‘sehaj safai kendra’ at Sectors 49-B and 51-C.



Protest against liquor vend:
In protest against a liquor vend in their village, irate residents blocked traffic on the Rewari-Kosli road at Budhpur village, 6 km from here, on Friday. They rued that many youths had taken to drinking due to the establishment of a liquor vend in the village last year.

Girl killed in mishap: A teenaged girl died after the bicycle which she was riding was hit by a truck at Rao Abhey Singh Chowk here on Friday morning. Pooja (17), a student of Government College for Women and resident of the nearby Phideri village, was on her way to the college when the mishap took place.

Wheat crop destroyed: About 40 quintals of accumulated wheat crop was destroyed in a fire which broke out at Anil Kumar Yadav’s field granary at Bolni village, 12 km from here, on Friday.

Drowned: A resident of Paras Ram colony here drowned in the JLN Canal here on Friday. Sources said the deceased, Surender (26), went deep into the water while taking a bath in the canal and drowned. The divers had not been able to fish out the body till the filing of this report.



Charas seized
: The police today arrested Fateh Chand, a resident of Panarsa Mandi, under the NDPS Act after it seized 4.3 kg of charas from him. The police was on patrol when they searched the accused walking near the gurdwara on the highway and recovered the contraband from him.



Four hurt in mishap:
Four persons were injured when a mixture machine, on way from Jammu to Sangaldhan, overturned in the Dalwas area on Friday. A case had been registered in this regard. The injured were rushed to the hospital immediately after getting the information about the accident, the police said.

Youth goes missing: The Jammu police on Friday said Sunny of Akhnoor was missing from his home since March 22. It further said investigations were on to find out the missing youth and a missing report had been lodged in this regard.

100 kg poppy straw seized:
The police seized 60 kg of poppy straw from the house of Farooq Ahmad Malik of Urwan, Poshwan, in Pulwama district on Friday. In another incident, the police seized 40 kg of poppy straw from the house of Farooq Ahmed Mir of Yader Rajpora in Pulwama district. Cases have been registered and investigations started.
