Music backs up Dhonis men
And by any chance you haven't been able to tune into various songs posted on social networking sites Youtube and Twitter, you are certainly missing out on the best of World Cup 2011. While on a recee, this is what we get, but before that Ehsaan Noorani of Shankar Ehsan Loy pulls a chord from the chartbuster World Cup score De Ghumaa Ke. De Ghumaa Ke The theme song has been recorded in three languages Hindi, Sinhalese and Bangla. Says Ehsaan, who shares how the original version of the song was a bit techno, "The song had a line De Ghumaa Ke. We decided to redo the entire song with new lyrics, while retaining the line." De Ghumaa Ke means 'Hit It Hard'. The lyricist has commonly used Hindi terms in the theme song such as aare paare (this way or that), guthi gutham (fisticuffs), juta hausla badla faisla (buck up and change the game) and jiyo khiladi wah re wah re (bravo, keep winning). "People tell us it is not a motivating song, but we wanted to bring out the real essence of cricket. The song is a foot-tapping number," says Ehsaan. Number-wise Bandwidth Birpal Dhillon, on the other hand, is amazed by the response his 'little ICC compilation' has got on Facebook. "I am not the only one, many non-singers have also posted their creations for World Cup 2011." 92.7 Big FM has created its own anthem for World Cup! Sing-a-song De Ghumaa Ke is the official song, however, there are other tracks that find an equal mention on the ICC 2011 playlist - My heart says to me; Cheers bol; Let's rock India; Bindaas bala; Maar ghuriye et al. Why fuss over one-night stand?
Well, one-night stands (ONS) are not that glamourous as they seem; they brings along a fair share of stress. Says Dr Ruchi Gupta, clinical psychologist at IVY Hospital, Mohali, "One-night stands have increased by 30 per cent. However, if one goes by the case studies ONS don't have a happy and casual ending, as one of the partners clings on to the hope of a fruitful relationship. Helplessness, emotional outburst and even a feeling of guilt, ONS might lead to a lot of psychological problems." Adding that parting is not easy, she says, "Although there is no permanent solution, we work according to personality factors and give advice for a better and positive relation." Ask her if it is men or women who go for ONS and she says, "Males have a tendency to stray easily and its females who get more depressed after a ONS. Teenagers are more easy with the concept of ONS than the elder lot." Calling it a psychological gratification of a rich man, city-based psychologist Dr Rajshree Sharda says, "More males go for ONS than women. And for women they are silent observers and don't have much of an issue till the time the man does not make it a routine."

Exhibition by special students
Love graphics
Varsha Badal, fourth-year student of BFA, Graphics, has made it a point that her works should tell the tales of freedom and enlightenment. Most of her graphical paintings on the canvas portray eruption of the human mind. Her paintings have impressions of bulbs, which appear like the opaque circle of knowledge. Most of her work is about transformation and independence. Poster girl
Anamika Kanoongo, fourth-year student of applied arts, exhibits her sense of advertising and marketing through her works of art. She has created posters for a few known brands. Beyond 2D
Priyanka, third-year student, has painted more than just a 2D image on canvas. She has tried to churn out a world beyond a normal canvas with eye-catching paintings. One of her works had installations in the form of spiders that run across the canvas. Sculpting a tale
Deepika, fourth-year sculpture student, has carved out different forms of lives out of wood, barbed wires and pieces of glass. She has sculptures that portray violence against mankind, happiness being in sync with nature and earth in its raw form. These jewels of art are an inspiration; life never stops and these very 'special' students know how to lead it with dignity. |
SPADE WORK
Let the garden be cleaned of all visible garbage, the remnants of plants, fallen leaves, twigs etc. Make sure there is no dead wood on the plants. This will show how active and involved you are with your garden. Do not drench the garden at the expected time of visit of judges. At this stage we cannot say you should have good quality winter annual plants growing in your garden because you will have what you had planted during October. In case you have more than one species in a bed, cut and clip at places where these interfere with each other. Staking, wherever necessary, should be done and in no case the plants should be leaning on each other haphazardly. Let there be visible distinction between different types. Watering the flowerbeds keeps the bloom in good shape. Using cana border gives a bordering effect and aesthetic beauty.

Kate goes without make-up for new film Hollywood actor Kate Hudson was relieved that she did not have to spend hours in the make-up trailer getting ready for her role as a cancer patient in A Little Bit Of Heaven. The Bride Wars star plays a woman dying of cancer in the film, which she admitted was a huge challenge, but meant she didn't have to worry about her looks or have people around doing up her face. "It was nice not to have to wake up and worry about bags under my eyes! Usually when you walk into a make-up trailer your make-up artist puts ice under your eyes, but in this film, we just threw all that stuff away. "There was not a stitch of make-up on my face. It's fun when you haven't had it done in a while, but when you're working on a movie, it's just a lot of people poking at you," she said. The 31-year-old actor, who is currently expecting her first child with boyfriend Matt Bellamy, also said she had to change her appearance during filming to reflect her character's battle with cancer, but not in the way most people would expect. "The one thing that I found really interesting was the process of what kind of treatment she would have had, and what her body frame would have looked like if she went through it. "A lot of times people associate sickness with frailty and getting real skinny, and, in this situation we had to work with her not being too skinny but actually getting bloated, which was odd. I had to eat salty things on certain days," Hudson said. PTI |

Madhubala inspires Kangna for Tanu Weds Manu
"Aanand was very clear about the tone he wanted to adopt for the movie. He told me that he wasn't pitting me against the heroines of our times but instead had Madhubala in mind. Of course he didn't mean that in terms of the look or setting, but in the spirit of the film and the character," said Kangana. The actress, who was last seen playing a arrogant fashionista in Anees Bazmee's No Problem, is happy to play a character rather than being concerned with the trappings of being a quintessential Bollywood heroine. "My character in the film is not glamorous. She is audacious but very lovable character. She is from a very cultured Kanpur family, who has studied in Delhi University. But then she also likes to shock people and have a bit of fun." The actress says unlike her past roles, she could easily slip into the spirit of a small town girl. "I come from the North, I have grown up with people who think like Tanu and also dress up like her. So it was not a role that needed too much research," she says. Also starring R Madhavan, Deepak Dobriyal and Eijaz Khan, Tanu Weds Manu releases all over this Friday. PTI |
