GNDU Academic Council meet
Internal assessment abolished from 2013-14 session: VC

As many as 80 principals, head of the departments and other members attended the meeting of the Academic Council of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), held at its Senate Hall today.

GNDU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ajaib Singh Brar in his presidential remarks said the internal assessment had been abolished from the academic session 2013-14. He said the annual examination system to all the post graduate diplomas, advance diplomas and certificate courses had been converted to semester system. However, the courses in the faculty of Physical Education and faculty of Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy would continue under annual examination system.


He said the basic Punjabi will be considered as equivalent to compulsory subject of Punjabi Language in Matric class of the Punjab State Education Board.

Brar said earlier Punjab History and Culture subject was offered to the students, who were not aware of Punjabi language, at under-graduate level as an option along with Punjabi compulsory subject. This decision would also be beneficial for the candidates who wish to render their services in Punjab.

Meanwhile, the temporary affiliation to Khalsa College of Law, Ram Tirath Road, Amritsar, along with courses of LLB (five years) and LLB (three years) for the session 2012-13, had also been granted.

In the meeting, syllabus of various courses and ordinances for the session 2013-14 was discussed at length.

With the recommendations of the Equivalence Committee’s meeting, the recognition of BBA (4 year) degree; Bachelor degree in Travel and Tourism Management (3 year); BTech Mechanical Engineering (4 year) degrees passed from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal, as equivalent to corresponding degrees of the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, was also considered.

The meeting also approved the Master of Physiotherapy (Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy) degree passed from Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, as equivalent to MSPT degree of the GNDU.

Dr Inderjit Singh, Registrar, presented the agenda and Dr Rajinderjit Kaur Pawar, Dean, Academic Affairs, was also present in the meeting.
