Commando commits suicide: Rajasthan police commando Chetan Meghwal (30) reportedly used his
service revolver to shoot himself at his Bhup Colony residence in Sriganganagar today. Jawahar Nagar police station in charge Gajender Singh said the body has
been shifted to the local Civil Hospital.
Karamcharis demand DA: The Punjab State Karamchari Dal (PSKD) here on Tuesday demanded that the dearness allowance due since January be immediately released. PSKD chief Hari Singh Tohra said even though the central government had announced the DA for its employees, the state government was delaying the same.
Rain may help improve yield: Expert: Experts said intermittent rain on Sunday and Monday would prove to be a boon for the farmers in the district. District Agriculture Officer Kirandeep Singh said it would
help increase the wheat yield and rid the crop of yellow rust. Singh said it would be better for the wheat crop if temperatures remain low this month.
3 held with spurious milk: The Moga police have seized 24,000 litres of spurious milk filled in two tankers and arrested 3 persons, including a village sarpanch. The owners of the milk processing factory involved in the scam are evading arrest. The arrested accused have been identified as sarpanch Kulbir Singh and truck drivers Gurdip Singh of Khai village and Jasbir Singh of Lohara village. The trucks belonged to 'Today Milk', owned by Varinder Kumar Dod and Rakesh Kumar Dod. A case has been registered.
Unions clash: Two non-teaching employee unions of Punjabi University clashed over the transfer of a sweeper at the office of the registrar on Tuesday. Union leaders Avtar Singh and Gurwinderpal Bubby and their supporters exchanged blows.
4 killed in road mishaps: Rakesh Kumar (32) of Saloh village and his two-year-old son Prince were killed while his wife Seema Rani (30) and infant daughter were injured when their motorcycle was hit by a speeding bus near Behram village on the Phagwara-Banga road. In another mishap, Rajeev Kumar Sharma (33) of Apra village and his daughter Vanisha (8) were killed and his wife Pooja and son Nikhil (3) were injured when their motorcycle collided with a four-wheeler near Mallpur village. Two separate cases have been registered.
3 booked in dowry case: A 25-year-old married woman, Pooja Rani, resident of Dhuri, about 15 km from here, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her house. Sources said she took the drastic step as her in-laws had allegedly been harassing her for more dowry. Station House Officer (SHO) Satnam Singh said on the complaint of Pooja’s mother Veero Rani, Pooja’s husband Bunti Kumar, two sisters-in-law Poonam and Mukesh Kumari had been booked. However, no arrest has been made so far.
