Miller booked for fraud:
On the complaint of PUNSUP district manager, the owner of Harpreet Rice Mills Malaheri, Jagjit Singh, has been booked for allegedly committing fraud with the department. No arrest has been made so far. District manager Vaneet Kumar alleged that Jagjit, instead of milling the paddy provided to him by the department, sold it in the market.

Bank manager booked:
Karnail Singh, a manager at Punjab and Sind Bank’s Urmur Tanda branch, has been booked for abetment to suicide on the complaint of a bank officer’s wife. Paramjit Kaur of Atalgarh in Mukerian alleged Karnail refused to return Rs 2 lakh that he had borrowed from her husband Mangat Singh. She alleged Karnail threatened to transfer her husband if he asked for the money. Under stress Mangat committed suicide, she added.

Timber worth lakhs gutted: In a major fire at a timber store in Malout town, wood worth several lakh rupees was gutted on Sunday morning. It took the fire brigade nearly five hours to douse the fire. Six tankers from nearby towns Gidderbaha, Muktsar and Bathinda were pressed into service to put out the fire.



3-day under-17 girls school tournament ends:
A three-day under-17 girls zonal tournament concluded at the Government Senior Secondary School, Ladori. As many as 137 girls of 17 government schools of Nurpur zone participated. Govt Senior Secondary School, Hatli Jawalan, won the badminton and the Govt Senior Secondary School, Ladori, the volleyball championship.
