Train runs over farmer:
A farmer was run over by the Delhi-Sriganganagar superfast train near Abohar on Wednesday night. Vinod Kumar of Dhaani Sucha Singh village was walking on the railway line as the regular passage was inundated.

Rs 45 lakh for Lahori Gate:
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday sanctioned Rs 70 lakh for the restoration and conservation of the historic Lahori Gate and Delhi Gate of the famous Qila Sarai in Sultanpur Lodhi near here. A spokesperson said Badal had recently deputed a team of cultural affairs to visit the site for assessing the damage caused due to recent rain. The team sought Rs 45 lakh for the conservation of crumbled Lahori Gate and Rs 25 lakh for the preservation of Delhi Gate.

Body to be sent back to Doha:Having dispatched a wrong body to the family of deceased Harjeet Singh at Mohalla Sangran in Adampur, near Jalandhar, officials of the Qatar embassy on Thursday came to take the coffin back. The embassy officials met Deputy Commissioner Kamal Kishore Yadav and took his permission to take the body, which had been kept at the Civil Hospital since Wednesday.

Smack seized:
The staff of Patiala Central Jail seized 40 gm smack from an undertrial on Thursday when he returned after attending a hearing in a district court. Gursewak Singh, who is lodged in the jail under the NDPS Act, was taken to the court on Wednesday. Additional Jail superintendent Rajan Kapur said Gursewak had hidden smack in his sandals.

Man, son killed in accident:
Mann Singh (80) and Manjit Singh (60) of Ladal village were killed when the motorcycle they were riding was hit head on by another motorcycle near Chhajli village on Thursday. Jagjit Singh of Janal village, who was on the other motorcycle, has been shifted to the PGI, Chandigarh. A case has been registered against Jagjit.

2 killed in accident:Two youths were killed when the car in which they were travelling was hit by a truck on the Sangrur-Sunam road, near Kularan village, about 7 km from Sangrur, on Wednesday night. The deceased were identified as Gamdoor Gir (21) and Paramvir Singh (22) of Uppli village, near Sangrur. The truck driver fled from the spot after the incident. The police have registered a case and taken the truck in their possession.



The court of Mohali Additional District and Sessions Judge on Thursday acquitted Mukesh Birwani of Zirakpur and Mohammad Salim of Dera Bassi, who were accused in two separate cases of rape, after the victims turned hostile. Mukesh was booked on March 23 this year while Mohammad Salim was booked by the Dera Bassi police on May 24 this year.



Blood donation camp:Over 200 officials of the state government donated blood at a camp organised by the Rotary Club and the Blood Bank Society Resource Centre, Chandigarh, at the Haryana Civil Secretariat on Thursday.

Aid for J-K flood victims:All 29,306 regular employees of the Haryana Power Utilities will contribute their one-day salary to the CMís Relief Fund for the J-K flood victims.

Dera sends relief material:
The Dera Sacha Sauda on Thursday despatched 25 canter-loads of relief material for the flood-hit people of Jammu and Kashmir.

2 held on murder charge:Sanjay of Jahri village and Pravesh of Jatwara have been arrested for allegedly murdering Sunil on Tuesday. Sunilís body was found from a field in Devru villageon Wednesday.óTNS

Maid found dead:Reeta, a maid, was found dead at a Panipat refinery managerís house on Thursday. The police have registered a case.
