SC issues
notices to Thomas, Centre

Central Vigilance Commissioner P J
Thomas on Monday expressed happiness over the issuing of notice to him
by the Supreme Court, saying it will give him an opportunity to present
his case on the petition questioning his appointment. “I am told that
Supreme Court has issued a notice. I am glad that the court has given me
an opportunity to present my case,” Thomas told reporters here.
House logjam: Cong-allies meet called off
New Delhi, December 6
A meeting of UPA allies, scheduled
late this evening at Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee’s residence to
discuss ways to end the Parliament impasse over the 2G Spectrum scam,
was called off. The NCP, a major ally of the Congress-led UPA, rallied
behind the government, saying that there was no difference of opinion
among allies regarding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into
the issue.

employees of oil company abducted
Guwahati, December 6
Four employees of Indian Oil
Tanking (Private) Limited, a sub-contractor of a public sector oil
company, were abducted by suspected Dimasa National Liberation Front (DNLF)
militants from Manja village under Langting Police Station in Dima Hasao
hill district of Assam yesterday.
