CHANDIGARH, Dec 6 The graces and trims of the contemporary world seem to be reflected in the ongoing group exhibition of paintings and sculptures at Art Folio Gallery, Sector 9. The paintings have been exhibited by Madan Lal, Hapreet Singh and Bheem Malhotra. The sculptures are the creations of Keneith Charles, who hails from Dehradun. Young Harpreet Singhs 15 works stand out in this exhibition, since with every successive exhibition, he appears to have become more aware of the importance of developing a visual language, and his own vocabulary and syntax. There are some brilliant small and delicate works executed on the computer, that bring a whiff of fresh breath to the art scene in the city. Harpreets assortment of collages, in which he has not restricted himself to any one medium, but has tried to focus on their functions, seems to be a dream-like exploration of ideas that are both young and spirited. The works of Madan Lal use a varied lot of colour, but with all that amalgamation of a whole range of shades and hues, with an uncontained control, he has been able to create a sense of space. His seven canvases abound in shades of red and orange, and the dominant shape is that of circles and coils. The works of Madan Lal, which have been stuck together as panels, create an overall pattern of delightful richness of colours as well as forms. Bheem Malhotras five landscapes, though very repetitive, are visually captive. His two small and similar-looking sketches of Agra town are also engrossing. Also on display are sculptures by an amateur sculptor, Keneith Charles, whose fingers have produced some interesting pieces, though totally devoid of technical details. Coloured in black and brass finish, his works would have definitely looked more interesting as natural baked clay products. One of Keneiths most interesting pieces lies outside the gallery, which reportedly came up with his simple play and jugglery with clay-lying waste out in the open. The exhibition was
inaugurated by Mr Prem Singh, Principal of Government
College of Art, Sector 10, on December 4. This exhibition
can be viewed till December 10. Energy on canvas CHANDIGARH, Dec 6 An exhibition of more than 40 exuberant works of a young artist, Sanjay, was inaugurated today morning at Government College of Art, Sector 10. His canvases, which have been worked with acrylic and pigments, seem to present a sense of energy and life. Simple dabs of colours on the canvases, which Sanjay uses in plenty, somewhere appear to dissolve into complex shapes. Talking about his work, the artist said he was aware of the control he had over his brushes and strokes which helped him transform the colours into an energy on the canvas. This was evident from forceful figures which appeared to emerge suddenly from the paint used liberally on his canvases. This is Sanjay's third solo show in the city. The Principal of Government College of Art, Sector 10, Mr Prem Singh, said this was one of the first in the series of exhibitions of former students of the college who had contributed significantly to the growth of art. The exhibition, which
was inaugurated by Mr D.C. Bhattacharya, will be on view
till December 20. |
